I don't know if anyone rememberd this but about a year ago another poster named desertdog got stiffed by a goldpalace sportsbook and there was a lot made of it. I too got stiffed by gold palace for about 2 dimes as they just quit answering phones and the site disappeared. I had heard they were getting new management and never heard anything again. I got an e-mail from a gold palace sports for a free $25 and I just checked out the site and it is the exact same software which is not a common type used by sportsbooks. The URL is betgoldpalace.com. Anyone have any idea if these are the same guys? If so I advise you to stay far away.

I’ve had some communication with Rex at Gold Palace over the last couple of days and he assures me that they are not the same operators with whom a number of slow pay/no pay complaints were lodged.

I can’t verify this, perhaps a poster here can, but it appears that the “old” Gold Palace Sportsbook used the URL goldpalacesportsbook.com while the “new” Gold Palace’s URL is betgoldpalace.com. In fact, this new domain name was registered in 2003, so Rex’s story may hold water.

Here’s a little from Rex with regards to the relationship between the “old” and “new” Gold Palaces:

quote:
We were introduced to the guys who were running goldpalacesportsbook.com … we met them in February of this year, they were no longer operating their business and were shut down. We agreed to purchase their software and the skeleton of their webpage, before we rebuilt the webpage to our satisfaction, had to have programmers do a major overhaul on their software and got our own domain name: www.betgoldpalace.com which is entirely different from what they used.

Unfortunately for us, we relied heavily on a partner we had at the time who was an old 'sports pro', who gave us nothing but glowing reports about many things, including what we were getting ourselves into. He is now gone for being 'ethically challenged' . We weren't aware of the bad rap these guys had or we would have come up with a completely new name to distance ourselves.

So, if this is the case, they are not the same scammers who ran the shop before.

I got in on the original goldpalacesports. Got a nice bonus offer at ultimatecapper so I tried them. I hit them very hard. One day They cancelled several of my plays claiming bad line. Of course these plays were bet several hours before game time and they were no cancelled. It took gold palace all of about 5 minutes to cancel the plays after they became winners. It seems that how the "bad line" scam usually works. It isnt a bad line until it wins. I tried to talk to their manager and got nowhere with him. So Finally I told him "F*** those wins I dont want them anyway, just send me my entire balance right now" I guess I was one of the lucky ones with this book, because he sent me about $3000 same day.

Dannymay:

Were you one of those who posted at UC? I remember seeing some posts about Goldpalace cancelling wagers after the games were over prior to requesting my last payout there in early May '02. I think Kevin deleted those but put them back up after I mentioned it in my posts about Goldpalace.

I got several emails from the new Goldpalace beginning on Aug 18, that day I received one that listed "Tony" as the sportsbook manager (the name of the manager who decided to stiff me) and another that said "Buzz" was the manager. Their rules look very similar to the old GP:

"This is a recreational gaming site for recreational players only. We do not accept accounts or play from 'wise guys', 'agents' representing other players, layoffs from other books or wagers on 'steam plays'. Maximum straight wagers online is $500 to risk, $1000 by phone. $200 max on parlays. We reserve the right to nullify the results of any tickets from players in violation of these rules, after the fact, and return the players previous deposit or balance, at our discretion."

They decided I'm a wiseguy after I won too much money, and the new GP has the same rules. The old GP also stiffed a couple other posters on other forums (Whitetiger and Grapefruit), and who knows how many didn't post. I think one or both of the above guys also were once members of UC before getting banned.

Xerri, I remember you had plenty of time to withdraw your balance after I posted about what happened. I hope you weren't persuaded by scumbag Kevin of UC to keep your money in there. He states that everyone but me was paid on that site, see this thread: http://therxforum.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=100090022&f=988094022&m=8493074525&r=1683010625#1683010625
I recall you got the "Poster of the Year" award at UC (likely for being fairly quiet about your loss). Pretty shallow if you're still a member there.

I think the new Goldpalace smells really bad because they have this wiseguy rule. If they're not the same crooks, they should be penalized for stupidity for sending emails with the name of the manager that stiffed players like me. I am far from a wiseguy, that's why I get bombed with direct mail, email and phone calls from sportsbooks like GP almost hourly.

I don't think these are the same people on the floor, I called them up and couldn't recognize any of the names and voices over the phone. I had them give me the free $25, then I asked them about the old Goldpalace after I blew it and they gave me another $20. So I would recommend taking them up on their free money and seeing if they pay if you win.

A new goldpalace with the same names??? No thanks. I got paid ($820) and I know one of my friends did, but another got stuck: He got his original deposit back and nothing more. That sucks that you got burned desertdog, and I know some others did too, but hacking on Xerri seems a mediocre response at best. I've seen several of his posts at ultimatecapper and they are often quite rewarding; other times not as much. As many good winners as he has given some of us, I would hardly think he got Poster of the Year for "being fairly quiet", he probably got it for the same reason sourmug might this year: solid reasoning behind solid picks. Shallow? No. Solid participant? Yes.

As for your wiseguy rule stuff, most books have it written somewhere on the site: the good ones let you know way before the game has started that you have no action, and they use it only if it is a flopped line or something like that. Granted, the good ones don't do it often but I've been rewarded for bringing it several books attention over the years.

Now, for the best part of your post, you want to make sure everone else demands (read: "I had them give me") a free account or balance or whatever. How about just leave it at warning others to stay away, rather than inviting them to play?

Don't think I made things clear enough for you. They sent me, Xerri and probably all the former customers of the old GP several emails offering a free $25 account. Could be not everyone can get this, but they are quite interested in attracting new customers. Anyone who reads this thread knows better than to send their money there. But the fact that they may be affiliated with the old GP in any way suggests that maybe they shouldn't be in business at all, because the industry doesn't need another black eye. So asking them for free accounts without depositing might help to get them to shut down, especially if someone runs their balance up and asks for a payout.

As far as the "wiseguy" rule goes, it doesn't refer to obvious bad lines. Of course those get cancelled. What happened to me and others who got stiffed was we won too much money, and they decided we were betting steam or line moves. I withdrew a few dimes before I eventually got stiffed after a big weekend. A sportsbook has every right to cancel bad lines, but the "wiseguy" clause means they can steal your winnings if they think you're a pro (or just don't want to pay you). They didn't decide I was a wiseguy until a week after I requested my last payout.

A wiseguy clause is not Ok and NOT the same as the standard bad line clause. And Kev who gave Xerri the poster of the year award defended this sportsbook's right to have the rule, as the link I provide above shows.

I think Kev might know how closely related the new GP is to the old one, I believe he refunded the latter several thousand dollars after he yanked them from UC since they were paid in advance.

desertdog,

Yes I posted a little over at UC under the handle DannyM. I never really got to posting much there because the site was pretty slow. GP screwed me ovwe hard and quite a few other players as well. They sent me my entire balance ( Minus the plays they cancelled after they won ). I knew I got screwed over with those plays being cancelled, but I felt lucky just to get something out of them. I know most players werent as lucky as me with this book, but I wouldnt try the new GP because it might be the same guys.

The New GP looks and smells just like the old GP that burned me for 2,700.00 in my first few months of trying out new books overseas. Later on, wagers paradise and sportsbook paradise ran off with a good sum of money too.

If I was superstitious I would stay away from any book that had a P in its title. But then that would leave out solid places like Las Palmas, Pinnacle, posttime and playerstime. So to be more specific it looks like it would be good to stay away from any place that has gold or paradise in its title.

Along with those last 4 books mentioned, there has been no worry of getting burned at Betroyal,beverlyhills,bet365,tradewinds,legendz,grande,bluegrass,gameday,bet19,vip,wallst,blue marlin, olympic, bcbets, sirbet, hollywood, clicknbet, betrio, cascade, bodog, betcbs, sportsbettingtrivia, ewinner, rebel and beteurosport. Thats a total of 29 reasons to stay away from books like GP,betzz, etc etc

You see in that thread I had posted about the 2 BS " bad lines " they claimed. When they came back in to answer the questions, they answered everyones questions except mine. They didnt even deny what I posted.

Kev banned my IP address he was so upset at my exposing some of the garbage he was doing to get referrals. So I normally can't access the forum even to read it.

The new Goldpalace url is www.betgoldpalace.com and these guys actually called me at work yesterday to try and get me to deposit, probably got my number off the old Goldpalace database like they got my email address. If they call any of you that got scammed someone ought to blow a whistle in their ear.

I'm just thinking to myself, when something is true then it is true, can't have two sides to truth, unless you're common sense challenged person.
