Do you know of any recent reports (last year) giving estimates of the amount bet on US sports online and offline and the rate of growth. Breakdown into various sports would be useful too. Another useful bit of info would be who are the largest sportsbooks in terms of US betting turnover. Thanks for any help.

did you know pete kyte, firststake had some sharp clients betting with them, TB (soccer ) owed 20 grand from them, also you boys took some reasonable action on rugby leg and union, not always a good thing when starting of. The snooker guy got out of first st 4/5 months before they hit the skids. g wagstaff done some odds compiling also for you boys.

anyway sportingbet took over everybodys account there which was nice of them.

by the way yeats @12/1 at boylesports is big for the derby, can trade out on the exchanges buddy

miamiman,

Sportingbet took over everyones account but customers with pending withdrawals (myself included) were stiffed.

I wouldn't like anyone to think the operators of firststake walked away in the clear with their names in tact.

They stiffed alot of people.

well jip,

was it not pending bets ? as their would be no way they would take on pending plays, ther risk managers did not lay the bets - no need to take them on.

pending withdraws - should have rang sb and told them to put money back into your account, they did not buy everybodys account and expect them to withdraw.

Pete Kyte - a blast from the past! He was the operations manager for firststake. Let's just say we disagreed on strategy and policy.

I remember on one occasion he told me to stop taking bets from a punter who I restricted to SP bets only. He reckoned we would not make any money from this guy who bets in hundreds - all his horses were heavily gambled so he was typically getting 4/1 when the horse had traded 7 or 8/1. I've learnt a lot from experienced people in the sports betting industry - Pete Kyte wasn't one of them. Also he refused a guy who wanted 5 grand on the lakers @ 6/4 for the NBA title (6 months away) when we could have laid it off at 2/1 with Ladbrokes.

Firststake were a shambles. The first guy to leave was a scouser guy - soccer (forget his name - nice enough guy) went to stanleybet and then i left two months before they went under. The rest hung around and didn't even get paid.

Anyway any of you going to help me with finding out some info on US sports betting turnover by sports and who are the biggest books in turnover?

miamiman,

No it was not pending bets it was my pending withdrawal.

I rang Sportingbet, Firststake.com and the liquidators literally dozens of times to try and sort this out.

The balance of my account passed to Sportingbet from Firststake was £0.00 Sportingbet, quite rightly, said that unless I could provide proof that I had a pending withdrawal they would have to accept the figure passed to them from Firststake.

Firststake had conveniently only passed the account balances to Sportingbet and not the account records. When I questiones the administrators of Firststake about the clients records at Firststake they were conveniently (and deliberatley IMO) not available.

There is little doubt in my mind that these funds were deliberately stolen by the operators of Firststake in a last ditch attempt to grab everything they could before they finally sank.

Like I said in my last post:

I wouldn't like anyone to think the operators of firststake walked away in the clear with their names in tact.

They stiffed alot of people.

Thought this may be of interest - Peter Kyte was of sportingbet prior to firststake and probably afterwards - a job for accounts possibly! Peter Kyte had this theory that because Man United had won the premiership for the previous two years (98/99 & 99/00) that they couldn't win the 00/01 season and thought we should be offering the best odds. The liabilities on Man united (won by 10 points) were huge and never honoured - I guess that's why the soccer risk manager left first - he could see what was going to happen!

They stiffed me for over 5000 GB pounds (court judgement in my favour) so I wouldn't feel sorry for them. Lots of people got stiffed and there were some huge ante post liabilities on soccer etc that were never honoured. I tried to redeem some money by selling their share price with spread betting firms but no one wanted to offer that company surprisingly enough!

Anyone going to help me out with articles on US sports betting turnover (online and offline)and largest books in terms of turnover?

sorry to hear that valueman.

In terms of the $ bet on US sports the only figures I recall seeing reported recently were those of WWTS who reported a $20mil profit on a turnover of $540mil the vast majority of which I would assume to have been wagered on US sports. Sorry I can't be of more help.
