I have seen some amazing lineups.
The Big Red Machine.
Murderer's Row
The Indians in the 90's
Red Sox '03
Etc.

But can this year's projected Yankees lineup be the best ever?

1. Lofton
2. Jeter (how many runs will he score now)
3. A-Rod
4. Giambi
5. Sheffield
6. Posada
7. Bernie
8. Matsui
9. Wilson/Cairo

Obviously this is all on paper....

oh my god.. .dont even be rediculous. its an awesome line up, but i dare you to put last years BA, HR and SB's along with their age next to each batter. if all of those guys were in their prime and playing well then maybe yea, but as it stands *ppsspsyysysssppp no way

other than jeter and a-rod and maybe posada, i think it might be the biggest question mark line up ever.

Baseball itself is as pure a game as there is.

That being said, what has happened to the Major Leagues and how a few teams can just go out and buy there way to pennants and Worlds Series, flat out sucks.

If you took away the betting aspect of the sport, I couldn't give a shit if the Yankees team plane went down.

first off I'm not trying to be rude.. But this is how I feel about the yankees line-up!

Sheffield is coming off of possible his best season ever! He was unreal last year, give him a month or two to adjust to AL pitching and WATCH HIS NUMBERS! giambi has been hurt, knee, eyes for the better part of two seasons this year he is finally healthy and ready for the first time since his MVP run.. Matsui may be the biggest upgrade yet. A year playing in the AL under the spotlight gave him the experience he needed. now with this line-up he will be the man overlooked and never walked.. can you say 2-0 bp cockshot fastballs? Bernie is showing his age but other then that I see this as the single greatest line-up ever.. UNREAL! We have MVP's not just ALL STAR'S running around...

1. Lofton could have been a MVP in 94-96
2. Jeter WS MVP nearly ever time the yankees go
3. A-ROD MVP, BEST ALL TIME SS
4. GIAMBI MVP, could have won back to back
5. SFEFFIELD could have won the MVP last year
6. Posada All around in the TOP 3 cathers in the game currently
7. BERNIE past his prime, but MVP possiblities were always there.
8. MATSUI HOW MANY did he have in Japan?
9. wilson/cairo lucky SOB's

EVERY TEAM IN THE AL EAST IMPROVED THEMSELVES THIS WINTER...........THIS IS FAR AND AWAY THE TOUGHEST DIVISION IN BASEBALL.

OF COURSE, ANY DIVISION WITH THE YANKS AND RED SOX IN IT WOULD BE HARD NOT TO BE THE TOUGHEST.

yes this is the greastest line-up ever (modern era)..

we should not even try to compare lineups of today against the line-ups prior to 1965.. let the legends live because they would have rode the pine in MASS quanities in today game.. except Mantle/Mays/Lou/Babe etc. and some other alltime greats..

can you imagine needing to score 7 runs off of MOOSE or Brown in 7 innings just to have a shot at beating these guys.. The 8th and 9th the Yanks own even more now with there upgraded pen.. The Angels are good, as are the SOX.. The only team though that has a shot in the Playoffs is the A's with there pitching.. Schilling and Pedro are good but will they even make the playoffs? the angels and A's will be putting up huge win totals... for 1st and 2nd in the west..

fish the AL east is loaded... The yankees are too good however.. There just too good... don't even bother betting on any props with anyone else winning the series.. The yanks won it yesterday with the A-ROD trade...

not even close to the greatest modern day line up it goes like this:

1. Lofton old as dirt and numbers show it say hi to ricky henderson part 2. oh my pride!
2. Jeter WS MVP nearly ever time the yankees go
3. A-ROD last years AL mvp
4. GIAMBI MVP, has yet to do anything in NY over a length of time (thanks for the $$ george, he he)
5. SHEFFIELD 39 years old, but will probably have another .300 40 year the yanks always have guys like this big whoop but 2-14 in the NL playoffs?!?
7. BERNIE past his prime cant play D anymore, heck he cant even hit anymore. what did he do last year again?!?!? he sucks you guys are so sappy over your washed up guys
8. MATSUI - gosh dis MLB piting iz jus a lil bit hada den bac home in japan i really hav hawd time get to .260 lik oder playas. . .in other words he sucks
9. wilson/cairo they suck. . .the 03 sox #9 hitter is better than half these guys.

rob, I have to disagree with you on a couple of those players.. First Giambi. He has had the eye and knee prolems these last two years. He is healthy now and hitting between AROD and SHEF means big things.. I think we may see MVP numbers again from him.. Matsui showed in the playoffs what type of player he is. Great eye and patient at the plate, with this line-up that will equal huge numbers for him this year.. Bernie is old as is lofton but wit h this line-up I'd rather have a wily old veteran then a ROOK any day!

Name me a better MODERN ERA lineup!

7-8-9 hitters from the most EVER RUN-SCORING OFFENSE THE GAME HAS EVER SEEN TO DATE!!

Lose Walker....add Reese, Burks, and Daubach.

Burks and Daubach will be VERY GOOD RH and LH pinch-hitters off the bench!

yanks have no left handed pitching i think the sox average like 8 runs a game vs. rightys. we would have easily won that series last year if NYY had no leftys. please.

93 BLue Jays after they added Rickey Henderson at leadoff was one of the best.

First 5 were maybe the best :

White
Alomar
Molitor
Carter
Olerud

3 of the 5, ALomar, Molitor, Olerud, were the top 3 hitters that year in terms of batting average.

the best offense is the one the mariners fielded when they came a few games shy of setting the wins record, also the cleveland one right before they dismantled the team and the sox 03 line up . . .those are all better than this speculative yanks line up.

sorry guys those are nice line-ups but..

LOFTON
JETER
AROD
GIAMBI
SHEFFIELD
BERNIE
POSADA
MATSUI

reads, to me, like the best ever put together!

that is my opinion however...

when your 3-4-5 hitters can hit 50 plus and your 1-2-3 can hit over 300 and steal 30 plus.. and your 6-7-8 are all all stars that spells BIG TIME TO ME!

Granted the Yankees got a guy that could hit 60 HOMERS, but you Yankee fans are showing no respect for Soriano!!!

He came within an eyelash of being a 40-40 man........two years in a row......at age 25 and 26!!!
