I remember back in 79 the Yankees wanted Rod Carew and baseball fans everywhere said it would ruin the game...Well this is much worse, the game already gasping for every breathe, scandals and strikes...And now this? Alex Rodriguez, batting 3rd and playing 3rd for the New York Yankees!!!

Just take a look at this lineup

Jeter
Williams
ARod *** Free Agt
Giambi*** Free Agt
Sheffield*** Free Agt
Posada
Matsui*** Imported Free Agt

Mussina*Free Agt
Brown*Free Agt
Vasquez*Free Agt

Is anyone else disgusted? Will NY even care to use a 2nd baseman? Uh no the games not in trouble, not at all! LMFAO!

How can there be any real fans left in this sport, please tell me?

That's what happens when you have the most money and an organization that cannot develop its own talent - don't forget that the no name 40 million a year Marlins kicked their ass.

Does Yankees mgt really think this is good for baseball? I would love to have George Steinbrenner in for a sitdown....

And a big thanks goes out to the entire pathetic Texas Rangers organization, piece of garbage outfit....First they over pay for Rodriguez by about 25% , jacking up the already inflated top end salaries, now this f*cking deal???!!
They are the real culprits, not any shock they haven`t won jack sh1t, EVER!

NEWS BULLETIN....The Yankees have just completed a trade for ICHIRO!!! and rumored to be close to another deal that would bring Barry Bonds (steroids an all) to the Bronx!!!

BULLSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!T!

I'm probably in the minority but to give up Soriano for A-Rod is not that much of an upgrade. Soriano had about 8 less HRs, 20 less RBIS (while batting leadoff as opposed to 3rd), batted 8 perecentage points less and stole twice as many bases (approx. 35 to 18).

I'll acknowledge that A-Rod is the best player in baseball but the other thing is to look at salary. A-Rod gets about $25 million a year, Soriano gets over $5 million. soriano is the better bargain and IMO, Yankees upgrade but not by all that much.

Meanwhile, I think Sox had more of an upgrade adding Foulke to their reliever corps which was their big weakness.

i hope the yankess win every game they ever play

You make a good point, Soriano isn t exactly Steve Sax...But come on ARod? No one was going to mistake Soriano as being the games best player....I`m just sick , physically I feel queasey over this,lol...Look at the free agents they`ve added in the past 2+yrs...

Shef,Brown,Vasquez,ARod,Giambi,Matsui...

Sheffield/ARod/Giambi could hit 160 Homeruns , that is if baseball allows the steroids to remain rampant...I have been saying this for about 10 years , the game is ruined!

No commisioner, if the office had any power it would have stopped this nonsense long ago...Back when Bowie Kuhn was in charge this would not have happened...

Jman,

The game was much better 15 years ago than now as far as a competitive standpoint, no doubt.

I will say this, too: It appears that the Rangers are gonna throw in some money for A-Rod, too so it's not as lopsided money-wise as I orignally speculated which is more beneficial to the Yankees.

Just another reason why that MLB, NBA, & NHL are barely stomachable during the season, and only enjoyable when the playoffs start..in contrast to Pro & College Football.

It's not a matter of who is gonna be there, just the waiting for who is gonna win it.

MLB, The Marlins overtook the Phils, and the Cubs overtook the Stros & Cards, then Fla upsets AL was the excitement, otherwise participants etched in stone by All-Star Break..Question of Angels & M's in-or-out only other question?

NBA West Big 4 versus Indy(in past Philly or NJ), the title comes down to who wins WCF, as playoff teams etched in stone out West before 1st tipoff of year..in the East it's a case of who cares to be a Mayan sacrifice(rates slightly behind "will KG escape 1st Rnd?" in excitement factor)!

NHL..Outside of odd year NJD teams, like the NBA comes down to West Conference survivor of Det-Colo-Dal-St.L-Ana.

Old outdated/excessive games played schedules to draw numbers & make for Elias numbers, kill the "every game counts" draw that makes Pro & College Football the reigning kings they are..and the gap keeps widening.

Was a Hoopster as a kid and teen, and once loved both the NBA & NCAA, betting & working both daily thru my twenties, but now very rarely watch nor bet either, except during the playoffs & March Madness, as the draft has killed them both, they look like the jive@ss And-0ne Tour.

IMHO, The NBA needs more Rod Tidwell(I.E. " I'm all heart m@ther****er!").

Journey, who are the Twolves paired with as of today, what few scenario matchups are for them?

I watch some NBA Tonight and ESPN, that's about it, but if they were an Eastern team I'd pick them to nip Indy.

They do look good enough this year to drop any West team that may not be at full-tilt, from the little I've watched.

Journey

As a fellow O's fan, we may be lucky to finish 20 games out this year. O's hitting is much improved but our pitching staff is going to take an even worse beating vs. the Yanks and Red Sox in 2004. F'n Steinbrenner is such a prick. (then again so is every Yankee fan ever born)

the NBA just needs guys that love to play. and not just guys that are billed as such.

you heard storys about bird getting out of practice and then playing with his brothers in a playground court until their hands were black and blue and it was past dark.

all we see in the NBA are athletes, not players. you hardly see guys diving out of bounds for a loose ball, let alone a forward grabbing a rebound and hurling it 50-60 feet on the money for an easy basket or a guy making a split second (total possesion time) touch pass in the low post to a cutting team mate.

the NBA should have never gone to zone defense, but the old system wasnt any good either they should have just loosened up the paramaters so we didnt see so much one on one look for mismatch BS.

I love the pacers, but they have the most boring offense I have ever seen. it's like watching 'hoosiers' but with a lot more athleticism and a 24 sec clock.

teams know eaxactly what the zone will give them so you either see:

A - a quick transition 3
B- 1 pass and a 3
c - a ton of passes for either a desperation shot or a mismatch drive to the basket (rare) or an open shot (even rarer)
or D - 1 pass and penetration

there is absolutely no exciting ISO to speak of.

Horseshoe- the West is a log jam as usual at this time,lol...But like you said thats predictable! Don`t count out New Jersey, they seem to have found their game all the sudden.

Stoli- atleast the Birds will be entertaining, some fresh faces who are proven, I really have my doubts about Javy though (coming off that career year)...

Rob- I thought your Pacer comparison to "Hoosiers with athleticism" was right on the money,lol..

True Rob, what happened to "teams" in sports, even ones that couldn't get over the top, yet had chemistry and continuity to keep fighting(thus charm and adoration)..like the late '60s LA Rams, '70s Hou Oilers, '80s Atl Hawks, '90s Tribe, the Buffalo Bills,etc..

TODAY, IT'S NO HEART, ALL BLING-BLING!

Now that was a team that could score some runs! What were they 100-44 (the strike season) I think that was their record...I pulled hard for them in '95...

I still fume over Glavine`s 1 hitter in game 6 (he had the umps calling the strike 8 inches off the plate)

I had 'em in that series(only one I ever lost involving ATL!

), and also thought they were being hosed in that final game.

As much as I admired them & it hurt me to bet against them, I did have the Fish versus the Tribe a few years later.

Brown was great that year & in SD, plus Leiter is a big-game pitcher.

Obviously, the Yanks buy lots of talent. But didn't the Yanks develop Jeter, Bernie, Posada and Soriano? In the last 10 years, how many teams have developed 4 players like that?

Yanks lineup is definitely stacked. Pitching might be a "?".

Brown could go down any time. Mussina isn't getting any younger. Vazquez in a new league.
