Could the Top 5 RX Basketball players take the UCONN Women?

I was in a deli earlier today and these two guys were arguing back and forth about just how good these collegiate women`s teams are....

Just how good are these top elite women`s teams....Could we scrounge up 8 guys go down to Tennesee or up to Connecticutt and take em?

Honestly lol, I have my doubts and I played division I, (soccer that is) these girls are good!

They would wipe the floor of most even good hoops players. They couldn't beat an organized team of quality men, but if you tried to put 7 or 8 guys together that weren't currently playing at least D-II hoops, I think they would win. More than anything people don't realize what makes a team tough to beat is that they are a team and play together.

i don't know if i agree. i went to a mac school that had a respectable women's team. they made the ncaa women's tourney 2 of the 4 years i was there.

i played pickup ball almost everyday at the rec center and consider myself an average hoops player. i was in a game once where the average skill level was about the same as me...maybe a bit higher. a starting guard for the women's team got in the game and was completely shut down.

she could knock down an open jumpshot but that was it. could not guard anybody, could not create a shot, could not breakdown the defense and dish the ball, could not come close to a rebound.

now, i realize that uconn is better than the mac teams but, if they played say a good chicago public high school men's team, they'd get smoked.

The best women's college team could not beat any good men's high school team. Size and strength, not to mention speed and quickness, would make the men a prohibitive favorite. A front line of 6'4", 6'6" and 6"3" would completely shut down the women's inside game.

Against a top-notch high school team, the girls should get points for getting the ball acr oss midcourt. That's about the most they could hope to accomplish.

I don't mean to be sexist here, there's just way too much for the women to overcome as far as physical ability. If you like the game the women play, enjoy it. Just don't delude yourself into thinking you are watching something different than what it really is.

I'm sorry but girls SUCK at basketball. Volleyball is a whole different ballgame. Chicks are so good at volleyball, and they look like athletes when they play it. Basketball, though, no way. They just don't even look like athletes playing it.

The difference between a top 5 women's team and a decent one and a top 5 men's team and a decent one is huge. The best women's teams are so far ahead of even the 20th team while in men's game even a .500 team can beat a number 1 on occasion. Besides look at the conditions you are playing in. If it was something they were motivated for they would play differently. Defense would matter and offense would be tough to defend as they would use all 5 players. If you play a pickup game the circumstances are so much different.

I played on Uconn's practive team against the girls at Gampel the yr before last. They could beat most random men's team with comparable height.

I agree the TEAM factor would be tough to overcome, and is not being given enough recognition here....Its a funny subject though to debate....

Now if I was 25 instead of 35 I would be more optimistic, lol...

Its amazing how quickly you can go from being in game shape to not even being able to get up and down the floor... If the Rx could find 8 guys, I bet the level of game shape would be hard enough to overcome...I know I couldn`t get up and down the floor for 40 minutes anymore...

Horse or half court one on one, I`d still smoke any woman though lol!

wildbill, you may be right about the disparity between the best women's team and a good women's team (this team was very competitive and went to the tourney). but, this girl was a starting guard on the team and i watched her play later in a game on tv and she was having success against her opponent.

believe me, she was trying to play well in that pickup game. she was not out for excersize...she was out to prove something. she looked embarrassed at the end of the game. they guys did not go easy on her during the game - she got her shot blocked a couple of times and she got stripped while trying to dribble the ball inside. i think she was trying very hard to play well and was just overmatched.

journey - the only thing she might have beat me in was a game of horse. i think she was a better shooter than most of the guys on the floor.

In general these gals are fundamentally very sound....I think in a game with all men the woman will never stand out...And imagine being the only girl on the floor, that would be alot of added pressure...Blue- I`m not surprised, she was messing up, just one example though...

Something that has notbeen mentioned and is very significant...THESE WOMAN USE A SMALLER BASKETBALL! And if they had to use the Men`s ball , they would struggle BIGTIME!

On the other hand I tried using that woman`s basketball once, couldn`t shoot it? It was too small or I just couldn`t adjust to it,lol

Blue- I know Hache would have a strong opinion for the guys...

Arde Lang from the STERN show was half Drunk,,, and almost kicked that DIV 1 Girls ASS,,,
chicks cant beat half decent inshape guys,,,,especially if you played hoops and have a tiny ammount of fundamentals,,,

I played a hund times against, while in high school, the 2 best girls on our high school team,, 2 on 1,,, we played to 11,, I won 60% of the time,,,

the only time they beat me,, was when their Jumpers were on,,,

UCONNs women team trounces teams by 50 points, and a good high school boys team only wins by 30 points, so UConn would beat a boys team by 15. Diane Taurasi is the best player in all of sports, only one close is Freddy Abdu or Roger Federer.
