I keep hearing about how you should clean your hard drive for many different reasons. I am still wondering if these different types of software really work?

It depends on the software, how many times you write over the items your deleting. If you really want to do your whole HD, I believe you'll have to un-delete your whole HD, then write over it with that program if it offer's both.

When you delete somthing your not really deleting it, your just putting it in another place on your HD. When you want to "wash" those items that were deleted your not really getting rid them, your just writing over them and rendering them useless and unrecognisable. The more times you write over an item, the more it's not recoverable.

Teaser, did you want to clean your HD or your computer's cache?

I just heard that if you are paranoid about internet gambling that you should clean your hard drive in case you ever got into trouble. I know it is a long shot, but it is better to be safe than sorry. thanks for the quick response.

they do, esp. if you set a high repetition wype protocol.

windows washer is a pretty good one, for safe "shreder" washes, set it to the "cia" protocol and you got nothing to worry about

Yes, Windowswasher is good..

Teaser, I would think that just erasing evindents on your computer would not make you 100% in the clear, I'm not sure. When ever you visit a site it is recorded, what ever you do leaves a trail, if someone wants you bad enough they could get you.

Be careful....CleanSweep has killed more machines than anything else I've seen.

Good concept, bad product.

I'd back up everything you care about before using any of these apps.

Very good advice..

I bought "File Saver" a while back, it's an undeleter to recover deleted items. I revored some thing's I wanted and then went to clean the rest off my HD and it crashed my HD.. I had to reformatt, was not fun!

BACK UP EVERYTHING YOU HAVE, LIKE TT STATED, BEFORE YOU TRY ANY OF THOSE PRODUCTS

Bury it 6 feet under in some remote place.

Will be a great artifact for someone in 200 years also.
