Have the principals at The Rx ever considered opening a sportsbook using the Rx brand name?

This may be very naive... the Rx may already hold ownership in one or more of the 'sponsoring' books.

Perhaps it's more lucrative just selling ads than opening a new shop these days. Perhaps the ongoing efforts by the US government to shut down offshore gaming is a deterrent.

Nonetheless, considering the popularity of the Rx, the expertise of the principals and their connections, the trusted brand name (well maybe up until the GA and PanAm fiascos), etc etc....

Why not give it a shot?

that's a stupid idea.

they make money sponsorship from sportsbooks as referals.
if they open a sportsbook themselves, do you think other books want to advertise here again?

Did I say they would? Obviously not, but the forum could still exist.

Of the 15 sportsbooks with banners at the top of this page, how many of them do you think will be around in two years anyway?

Why own a sportsbook, and risk losing money? You can get other sportsbooks to advertise with you, get paid, (and sing their praises) before they go broke.

Sounds like a business model to me.

It is not a good idea.

therx.com - monthly fixed income, no way to lose

- the forums customers are sharp gamblers, it would be hard to make any money.
- open up offices offshore (wagering departments are really expensive)
- it is just not the time to open a new book, you don't know how much time the industry have left.
- it is not easy to run a book. it is easier to talk about books that to run one.

investigator... all good points, except "the forums customers are sharp gamblers, it would be hard to make any money."

the majority of posters here are NOT sharp, although they'd like to think they are. Most of them don't even know the difference between "to" and "too".
