Where do the lines originate?

This may be a stupid question, but I was wondering if it was an offshore book, or a Vegas book?

Or do the books get the same line from some source and put it up somewhat simultaneously?

Who are some of the first offshore books to put hoops lines up?

Guess that's three stupid questions.

Thanks in advance.

They originate in USA TODAY. If the paper does't have a number on the game then you can't bet on it.

Oly and CRIS are usually the first ones with the lines up.

The Stardust Sportsbook puts up numbers on the Vegas strip. Quickly followed by Don Best and then the major offshore books like CRIS, Oly and some others. Maybe some of the Veags residents who post here will give a more detailed cronology of the process.

actually WILHEIM is the brains behind linemaking.......its a little known fact that every line on every event comes straight from WIL himself...........the other guys just copy from him......even that dude at Hollywood.....what's his name FERNDALE or FERNADO something like that.........

I'm sure the oddsmakers at Las Vegas Sports Consultants have something to do with the process.

Thanks Wil.

At least with an operation like that, you don't need to worry about those stupid DOS f***ers.

I haven't been to Vegas much, but are there a bunch of guys standing around the Stardust just waiting for the first shot at the lines?

Look at those old adding machines in the photo. Ya think they ever added some big figures? I like the pencil sharpener also in the middle of the table.

Marino13 - As far as I know the Stardust stills has a type of lottery to establish who has first shot at their numbers. Of couse you can't bet much there anymore.

Sometech - As far as I know thats true, I am out of touch with Vegas these days. I do know there is a rotation number battle between the numbers you see at the Dust and Don Best and the rotation numbers used by Jim Fiest schedule books. This also is nothing new. The Don Best rotation as its called is the one that the Stardust uses to put up openers, and is based mainly on starting times with the earliest starters EST. getting the lowest numbers. If anyone has more to add please jump in.

Wil - ALL Nevada sports books now use the Don Best rotation, with Jim Feist buying the grids to make his own book with his own ads.

But there is no longer a rotation battle. Everyone now uses the same order!

It just seems like whomever gets around to it first does it. They all have testes of steel
