Someone in antoher thread that I can't find right now says that if a team wins the toss and elects not to receive first, then they won't receive first in the second half either? Is this true?
I always thought that you got to choose either the ball first or the side of the field to start from.
In my opinion, it is always better to choose the side of the field, than getting the ball first.
Here are my reasons:
1) Wind changes speed and direction. If you know the wind is blowing hard in one direction right now, then take the wind at your back (probably 2nd quarter) since it could die down or change direction by the second half.
2) I'd rather have the ball first when I already have some good information as to where the game stands. I think getting the ball first in the second half when you know if you're tied, up by 2 TDs or down by 2 TDs would be a lot more valuable than getting the ball at the start of the game when you don't have this information.
Haing said all that, if it's true that if you decline to recieve first then you also have to kickoff to start the 2nd half, then my argument is moot (and I probably look stupid for not knowing the rules).
Thoughts?
