Tater, it looked extremely boring and a bit sappy from the preview ...

could you give us a non-Hollywood preview?

well first its a Lance burton movie,,, so its a bit excentric,,,, its about the frustrations of a son with his father,,,,,

the dad tells his son Tall stories throughout his sons life,,,his son is a realist,,,and Grows up resenting the fantasy world his father lives in,,,, to the extent that they become estranged for some time,,,

throughout the storyline,,, it is pepperd with funny fantastical stories of how his father lived his life,,,

the Father/Son antaggonistic relationship is done well,,, acting is Excellent,,, the story itself is VERY new,,,and fresh,,, well done Burton,,,,

it is a bit sappy,,,, dont go with your boyfriend,, haha,,, take your chick,, she will prob. shed a tear,,, and if anyone here has father son issues,,, it kindof bridges some gaps,,,,

one of the best movies this year I think,,,

Thanks for the recap Tate. It sounds like a decent feel-good film.

http://www.lost-in-translation.com/intro.html the trailer

Here is what it is about..
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/LostinTranslation-1125647/about.php

Sofia Coppola's second feature-length film focuses on two guests at a Tokyo hotel--Bob (Bill Murray), a middle-aged actor in town to film whiskey commercials, and Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), the young wife of a trendy photographer (Giovanni Ribisi) who is always out on a shoot. When Bob isn't on the job taking fragmented direction from the Japanese crew, he's receiving faxes on home decorating from his emotionally distant wife. And while her husband is away, Charlotte spends most of her time trying to motivate herself to do more than look out the window at Tokyo's urban sprawl. So when the two meet in the hotel bar, they strike up an unusual friendship, one that provides a welcome escape from their boredom and loneliness.

With LOST IN TRANSLATION, Coppola cements her reputation as a thoughtful and inventive filmmaker. Every element of the movie is pitch-perfect, from the dreamy, atmospheric score to the expertly timed editing to the lingering shots of the characters and the city. Most importantly, Coppola's minimalist script allows Murray and Johansson to give astonishingly moving yet subtle performances as people who are lost in the limbo of a foreign country, but find each other for comfort and companionship. Both heartbreakingly sad and hilariously funny, Coppola's LOST IN TRANSLATION is that rare movie in which everything is in its right place.

Doesn't sound all that great to me

Couldn't agree with you more Tate - but it's TIM Burton....and don't forget to give props to Burton's eternal partner - Danny Elfman - for the score. Maybe the freakin Academy will actually recognize Elfman's genius this year...but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Lost In Translation is great(Sofia has dad's talent, she's 2 for 2 so far?).

Big Fish is great, it is Burton's best since Edward Scissorhands.

The Cooler has great performances by all three actors, yet lacks a 'lil in script.

Master & Commander is fabulous, but not as good as Das Boot for all-time maritime warfare flick.

I'll have to check those two out..

I thought butterfly effect was pretty good as well considering the cheesy pop star,
