Ottawa 6, Rangers 0 - 5 minutes into 2nd period.

The Jagr trade is not really paying off so far.....

Barry Melrose said the Rangers already have enough high-priced players who don't hustle, they don't need another one.

Also said he thinks the Rangers are gonna get the Washington Jagr and not the Pitt Jagr.

Tend to agree with Melrose. There are some people who SWEAR that Jagr is still the most-talented player in the NHL. So what the heck happened? Is Jagr lethargic because of his gambling debts?

Jagr is IMO still the most purely talented player in the game. But compare the way he plays to a guy of comparable skill level like Forsberg and you see why he's relatively unproductive. The best players in the game play with intensity, they drive the net, they grind it out in the corners. I was lucky enough to see Jagr play this year from front row seats and was struck by how he gives up on pucks, his poor play away from the puck, and general lethargy. The guy is coasting on talent and the sad thing is he will be able to do it until he's 40 if he wants (just seeing PP time and potting 20-25 goals/year).

Interesting thing was that Anson Carter in Edmonton looked like he would develop into the type of players the Rangers sorely lacked, yet he didn't live up to it at the Garden. I don't think the Rangers are truly interested in winning the Cup as much as filling seats. Big names that can make highlight reels fill seats, players like Claude Lemieux and Scott Stevens win Cups.
