I hear ya!

It is almost like you need a graduate degree these days to get what you really want.

Congrats on getting your undergrad degree though........nice accomplishment.

I'm a communications major. After finishing college, I had a friend who worked for SunCom (now AT&T Wireless) and helped me land a job. 4 years later, I am still with the company, but my last day will be the 31st of this month.

After submitting my resume to every pharmaceutical sales company I can think of or anything related to medical sales, I have ZERO offers. Nothing.

Timing is everything, but who you know is more important.

It gets to be very frustrating. I go on these interviews and they ask me what type of experience I have, I worked during college, but not what there looking for. And I can't expect gambling to pay my bills forever...

My advice is to network.Anyway you slice it knowing people is what gets you places. Then when your in it is up to you.Perfect example chalk eater got a job because he knew someone.I know many people who have degrees and are having trouble finding jobs. Also imo you almost need a masters degree to land something good today because everybody is getting a four year degree.

Depends on the school.
I guess if you graduated from BWU (Bonus Whores University) and you majored in Scalping and Middling might be very good for you....

Been there. Was a history major. Realized I had to go into teaching with that. Won't be teaching my whole life but it is a job so...

while I was in school getting my MBA, I was perfecting my capping skills. Now, I make plenty of money betting on sports, so I don't need to work a "regular" job.

GoldenPicks,

I am in the same boat. I graduated in May 2003 and I got a couple offers but they all wanted to pay shit. How can I graduate from college and hire in at $19,000 when I was making $26,000 before I ever started college ?

It sucks because a lot of these jobs dont even tell the starting salary until they make you an offer. YOu dont have much bargaining room being that you are fresh out of college, and there are 50,000 other kids they can hire instead. I dont know how to ask whats the salary in the first 2 minutes because it starts you off on the wrong foot, but from now on I will ask that question.

Why do I want to waste 4 hours off my time ( or likely more) when they are only paying $15,000.

All the kids in my little group who got nice $50,000 + jobs out of college got them with Mom and Dad's help -- they had parents with business connections who pulled strings to get them in.

That is the same old same old way. The kids who didnt have to work and drove around in the $40,000 new cars get the breaks again. Seems like in life its always the same kids getting the breaks. Oh well thats off subject. Now I am working on my MBA and working a full time job that pays ~ $30,000 hoping for better someday.

It is what you make of it
I know plenty of very successful people who never finished college . YOu need to work hard and knock down all obstacles to get your first job. You might be surprised how you do once given the opportunity. THe job market is what you make of it, go for it and be aggressive

True. Not many 22 year old right out of college really have any good connections though. Right out of college a lot of it is who your parents know. I know so many kids who got awesome jobs because Daddy had a good buddy business connection.

Since, you don't have contacts via parents...

Was their any college professor that really liked you? Often they can help a lot as people contact them looking for people
