57 days and today I take my first drink since.

Hopefully, I can drink in moderation. That first taste felt really good though.

As i said, as long as it is in moderation I have no problem with tipping one every now and then. But as those who know me attest, I can go on binges now and again.

But to be honest, I did go longer than I thought I would and I do feel pretty good. I just hope I don't have a vicious hangover tomorrow or go back into a cycle of drinking heavily.

I have several friends who battle alcoholism and drug abuse on a daily basis. These individuals who have conquered this addiction have been heavily aided by anti-depressant medication. Perhaps if you can't stay away from binge drinking that this may be an option for you. hopefully you won't need any help like this. Good luck to you green.

Saving those brain cells is money earned in the form of remembering quirky details from years past about players, coaches, teams, games..get back on your horse Dobie.

Go lift weights, walk, and swim like many others in town do...GL & stay in control.

I am sorry to hear that Green.
But congrats on the 57 days you did do it, that is a big step.

I hope that you are able to maintain drinking in moderation.

If you need anything please feel free to ask.

Thanks,
Angelle

Be careful with those Anti-Depressants. I got thrown on them in high school (Yeah, I had a problem-it had absolutely nothing to do with my parents getting divorced, or my younger brothers asking me what was going to happen at the time that I was about to go off to college).

They can make you feel invincible, and lead you to gamble like a banshe. They can cut you off from reality & lead to bigger problems-trust me.

Just my 2 cents

I have been on them as well, and well still am. Just a much lower dose.

It really just depends. Some work and some don't. The first ones they put me on messed me up more than before. Its just kinda finding the right ones for you.

Don't get me wrong though, I don't think they are right for everyone. And their are some REALLY bad ones. Plus they are much worse for guys

Think of how good it would feel telling others (as well as yourself) you haven't drank since........"X" months.

a strange thing it is this alcohol addiction. i drank in binges three times a week for 9 years starting in college. have been physically ill from drinking well over 200 times and hung over just as many. runs in the family too. then i just stopped. met a girl in sunny So Cal and just diversified my interests. have a beer a week now or if at a party maybe 5 or 6, but few parties if at all. i probably average a six pack a month now. amazing.. you can do it too. just find some other interests man. the gym was a good idea. a woman that stokes your fires physically and mentally works too. take care and be well

Very good points TTinco. I agree with you. Anything that detaches you from reality is not a good thing.

Green Doberman, I feel your pain. It took an auto accident some stiches and a lot of fear for me to finally quit and it was cold turkey.

My dad used to have a saying that: "a man was a fool to drink before 40 and a fool if he didn't after 40". It has worked the opposite way for me, at least in practice.
The anti-depressants if you go that route will be an experiment. For me, they tend to either make it so I can't sleep (zoloft) or want to sleep too much (celexa). You may try a small dosage of imipramine to see if that will relax you. When it's all said and done, most people use alcohol to relax.
Best of Luck !

REMEMBER::

It is better to drink in moderation, then to not drink at all!!

As a licensed health consultant, I am 100% convinced of that.

Oldtimeman- Not to push pills on you, but if you are still aving the sleeping issues (not sleeping). The is a anti-depressant called Trazadone. If taken at a very low does helps you sleep. It isn't addicting and doesn't give you a hang over like sleeping pills. I used to have the worst sleeping problems, I could go days without sleeping. I would just toss and turn. It was the worst EVER. I am now fine, well maybe I sleep to much. But it is better than no sleep. Anyway, just wanted to let you know what helped me if you are still having sleeping problems.
