Aina is the north = Kai is the South.

Jeff Smoker who is coming into the game now is playing for Kai Team (South), white jerseys.

DB sent out an urgent message explaining it, but I think that it was pretty close to gametime.

I hadn't looked at the game, so had no idea WTF the message was talking about until I turned on the game.

Really dumb decision by DB, no doubt about that (unless the staff was looking for the MONSTER middle opp).

Yes, everyone was confused...even Sportsline.com. I posted this in another thread, but...

The game story on the Hula Bowl at Sportsline.com has Aina winning 26-7, but linescore on the same page has Kai winning 26-7. Not even people at the game knew which was which

http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/gamecenter/recap/NCAAF_20040117_KAI@AINA

In case the link gets changed, here's the printout of the first few paragraphs and the linescore:

SportsLine.com wire reports
WAILUKU, Hawaii -- Iowa's Fred Russell ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns to help Aina beat Kai 26-7 in the Hula Bowl on Saturday.

The speedy, 5-foot-8 back carried the ball eight times, including scoring runs of 12 and 35 yards, and was selected Aina's most valuable player.

The college All-Star Game featured 96 seniors and was played on an 81-degree day in front of 9,128 fans at War Memorial Stadium on Maui.

Aina, which means "land" in Hawaiian, was led by Ohio State coach Jim Tressel. Kai, which means "ocean," was coached by Maryland's Ralph Friedgen.

Both coaches had floral leis and were appropriately dressed in Hawaiian shirts and shorts.

Aina built a 16-0 lead and went into halftime with a 19-7 advantage behind the play of Central Florida's Ryan Schneider.

SCOREBOARD
Final 1 2 3 4 T
Kai (1-0) « 9 10 0 7 26
Aina (0-1) 0 7 0 0 7

Could someone pls. post that Don Best memo here? According to their website the gametime line for AINA was +2.5

I also had "south" at Canbet which only listed "north" and "south" and the line was +2.5

They graded my bet as a loss and I'm concerned I might have been shortchanged.

Don Best Customers:

The Hula Bowl will be played as Kai vs Aina instead of North vs. South. This Year Kai is
designated the South and Aina is desgnated the North. Earlier today, the Don Best screen read
Kai (North) vs. Aina (South) which was incorrect. However, the lines have been correct, since they
are tied to the names Kai/Aina and not North/South. We apologize for any confusion over our
earlier listing.

Kai means "ocean"...Aina means "land"...neither has anything to do with North or South. In fact, if you look over the rosters, you'll see players from the same colleges on opposite teams. And Jeff Smoker is just one of many examples of northern players on the "South" team, and visa versa. This should never have been listed as North/South (or East/West), and an earlier post from Don Best Sports said they won't do that in the future.
