Mystic River was a good movie, but definately will not go down as a classic. While I recommend it, be forewarned that it is NOT uplifting.

"Cider House Rules" had the same effect one me ...

It was depressing, yet brilliant. I bought the DVD afterward watching it in the theater, but have yet to watch it again in it's entirety - it brings you down pretty fast.

Even Cider House Rules left you with a feeling of hope and some joy in your heart...Toby McGuire's charcter went back to the orphanage to take over where his surrogate father, played by M. Caine, left off, and was mobbed by the adoring children who looked up to him. The girl that always had a crush on the young man had matured into a beautiful young woman who was waiting for him when he returned.

Mystic left you sitting on a street curb after an all-nighter drinking J Daniels from a paper bag, pondering skelatons in the closet and how life is a kick in the face with a steel-toed jackboot. It was typical of an Irish movie, and I'm not saying that's a bad thing.

I was bored!!!! They could have shaved 45 minutes of the movie.
It had great actors and an interesting plot, but my man Eastwood...get to the point!!!

I would rate the movie the bad and the ugly.

I know a "movie" that's not depressing or too long. Four Flicks starring The Rolling Stones.
