Since I can only have 5 options.. I guess we will have to have a discussion also. Every year a group of receivers have breakout years. This usually happens after 2 or 3 years in the league. Wide Receivers usually need time to adjust to the league and many of them get injured early in their careers. Their bodies usually need adjustment more so than other positions. Others are just stuck behind proven veterans and they are just waiting for a shot. Players such as Marvin Harrison, Jimmy Smith, Rod Smith, Terrell Owens, Michael Irvin, Tim Brown, etc all needed 2 years or more to adjust or overcome injuries.

Some WR I thought broke out last year were Jerry Porter, Peerless Price, L Coles, Donald Driver, koren robinson and quincy morgan.

Let me hear what you all have to say. I am more interested in the 'sleepers' or WR who will come out of no where.

This poll represents my 5 breakout Wide Receiver performers of 2003. Which one do you think will come out of the shell this year.

Others I couldn't put on the list: Troy Edwards for Rams, Bryan Gilmore for Arizona, Snoop Minnis for KC, etc...

Dwane Bates -- Vikings

He's got some talent and with Moss opposite him...he can have a good year.

I was thinking him but I didn't think Rich Gannon would come into his own nor did I think they had a good offensive game plan. Maybe if Jerry Rice went to Arizona to be with the ROCK Jeff Blake.

Wayne will be starting opposite Harrison this season, so look for him to get his share of action as Harrison will be keyed upon by defenses, Wayne is expected to surpass the 1000 yard mark easily. I expect Wayne to average 70 yards per game this season with 8-10 TD's.

The only guy I like from that list is Reed. Wayne has never impressed me even though he'll be a solid 3rd WR in fantasy. Lelie may do a Jerry Porter imitation but nothing more. Moss will get 800 yards and 6-7 TD's. Hall will do about the same. Reed has always been a great route runner since his days at LSU and with Bledsoe throwing the crossing patterns I think Reed will be a top 20 WR.

4 year starter @ Miami Fla

Started 42 games, most by school receiver since 1983.

Set school all-time record for receptions (173)

Had at least one reception in 36 consecutive games.

Joined only 2 other players in school history to record 20+ career TD receptions.

1st round draft pick, injured ankle in 2001, limited action.

2002 3rd starter 49 catches 716 yards 14.6 per catch behind Harrison & Qadry
Ismail

Has receptions in 25 of 29 career games.

Will start along side Harrison this year.

One of these may have a breakout year but I'd take T.O. as my first WR without a doubt.

Wayne has the college stats but from what I've seen in the NFL he just hasn't looked that great. He's had his chances and not really done much with them. He is in his third year when WR's tend to take off, but I don't see him cracking the top 30 this year.

could emerge in Bill Parcells system. Had a decent rookie year and showed improvement as season wore on, ave. of 17.5 yds per catch in December (14 receptions). Made 32 first downs with 44 total receptions. Look for Parcells to use him as possession reciever this year.

I know I am being OVERLY optimistic but I think Frank Sanders could have a big year for the Ravens. If Redman starts out hot and healthy and gets the vertical game going to take pressure off of Jamal Lewis, Sanders and/or Marcus Robinson could be sleepers. Knowing Billick and especially Matt Cavanaugh (his picture takes up an entire page in the dictionary next to OVERrated and IDIOTIC), this may be moot when Boller gets the call in week #4.

I don't know how much of a breakout he will have ..i think he'll do a Jerry Porter like stat year but maybe less since his QB sucks. He is the 3rd Receiver on that squad behind Galloway and Glenn
