NFL, CBS Dominate Saturday's Ratings
Fast National ratings for Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004
CBS' coverage of the NFL playoffs scored a big ratings win for the network Saturday, far outdistancing its competition. Second-place FOX was within shouting distance of the lead only because its NFL game bled into primetime.
For the night, CBS averaged a 13.2 rating/22 share, easily beating FOX's 8.5/14. ABC finished third at 4.5/7, while NBC trailed with a 3.7/6.
CBS also led among adults 18-49 with an impressive 8.2 rating. FOX averaged 5.4, NBC 1.9 and ABC 1.4.
FOX won the 8 p.m. hour thanks to a runover of its NFL game -- a double-overtime thriller between the Carolina Panthers and St. Louis Rams -- which averaged 17.3/29 and led into a repeat of "Cops," 6.2/10. CBS averaged 10.6/17 for the hour with its NFL game. ABC aired the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and posted a 4.2/7. NBC went with a repeat of "Average Joe: Hawaii."
At 9 p.m., CBS improved to 14.0/23 with its coverage of the New England Patriots-Tennessee Titans playoff game. "America's Most Wanted" came in at 5.3/9 for FOX. ABC's figure skating held steady in third, while a "Law & Order" rerun averaged 3.2/5 for NBC.
CBS closed out the night with a 14.8/25 for football. NBC moved up to second with "Law & Order: SVU," 5.2/9. ABC's figure skating coverage averaged 4.8/8 in its final hour.
