Why wouldn't a book take this bet?

Called Olympic at the end of regulation of the Rams game and BEFORE the Pats kicked off. Asked if I could get a wager on Tennessee at the money line but ONLY IF the Rams won the early game. Was told the Rams game already started

Why on earth would a book not take this bet? Maybe I should have talked to the manager.

Not sure if I understand your question but No system will allow you to "if bet" off a game that already started.

DickyW,

Love ya and respect you a great deal, but I beg to differ. With our recent upgrade in software, you can make an if money bet on any pending wager. In the 6 years that I have been working in CR, and with the 5 different softwares that I have used, I can confidently say (in my humble opinion) DGS is the best. Our clients like it and our clerks and management couldn't agree more. Oh, and a rarity down here, GREAT tech support.

Hopefully, I will see you on Weds at the German Club.

Jake

I'm sorry, but i need to understand something, you called when the RAMS game was going into overtime, and they told you that the wager could not be taken because the RAMS game had already started?????

Also, what line did you take? if it wasn't the total or a teaser, you can pretty much tell if you won.

Jake, i think Dicky said take a wager on game that has started, not a wager on a game that hasn't finished.

DonB,

Correct...I called when the Ram game ended in regulation and was headed into the first OT. I wanted to bet the Tenn moneyline in the Tenn/Pats game, but I only wanted the bet IF the Rams won their game by any margin. If the Rams lost I did not want to bet the Tenn/NE game. They said I had to put that bet in before the Ram game started and I said what's the freakin difference? I could see if the two games had some type of impact on each other but they didn't.

Now i get it, thanks, guess you had the money line on this one too. Suppose that the book did not take your wager if it was a large amount because they didn't wanted to move on air so close to game time, since the game could go either way.

DonB,

The bets were basically hedge bets against teasers...I could see if it was a small shop but not Olympic. I suspect as Dicky mentioned their software didn't allow this type of bet.

Senditin and DickyW,

I just wanted to clear something up, as it appears that I might have been mistaken. If you already had a pending wager on the Rams ML, you could have had an "If" money bet on the Titans. HOWEVER, if you did not have a pending wager, then putting that if bet in the system would not have been possible. Of course, I probably would have taken a paper bet for ya

.

If the above is what you meant, then it is I (not DickyW) who stands corrected.

sometimes we tend to over analyze things...it can just very well be that the clerk does not have the power to do such a thing on a wager that is underway, for a variety of reasons like, the software wont allow it, it can be a pain in the ass for a sportsbook to book something on a ticket and then put it in *I know many books discourage this type of action* or the clerk simply wasnt capable or trained properly to accept such a wager...

I have no clue which it was but it could very easily be any of the above.
