Why are some surprised and outraged that Pete Rose still gambles? Why do some feel that Pete Rose has to quit all forms of gambling to have a shot back in baseball?? The Racetrack? Trips to Vegas? Stock market? Crossing the street?

LEt the guy live his own life. If he plays the horses, the lottery or the stock market it is his own business, like what books he reads, what cell phone company he chooses, and who he votes for next November.

It has nothing to do with the Hall of Fame.

You must understand there are alot of virgins here and mostly people who live life with tremendous morals. People who would never have done anything close to what Pete has done.

Well for one Pete has been diagnosed with being a problem gambler, one who shouldnt gamble, one who cant stop gambling. And he is gambling today.
Pete said his losses in other sports led him to gamble on baseball.
He is gambling today, will continue to do so, So how can he be trusted to be let in and think that he wont gamble on baseball again.
That whole arrogance thing is why I think they wont let him in, at least till he dies.
He always tries to take the spotlight away from other and put it solely on him, like he did this past weekend
So basically what I was trying to say here, that Pete is a degenerate who has no intention to mend his ways, therefore should never be reinstated

He compromised America's pasttime. The game is bigger than Pete Rose, and almost as big as ARods contract

Faye Vincent says that since Pete sometimes bet on his own team that the times he didn't bet on them was akin to betting against them ...

I concur. What's to say Pete didn't rest his bullpen more for when he bet? Or sat out stars when he didn't? He's already proven that he's been nothing but a liar for the past 14 years ... why should we believe anything he says now.

No one has to believe anything except he has the numbers it takes to have been in the Hall years ago. All else is personal objections.

One thing I heard Pete say the other night on his ABC interview. "I wasn't fast like Mickey Mantle and I didn't have the power of Mays; but I played the game as hard as anybody"

Yes, I think no doubt that Pete has a gambling problem and probably won't be let back in as he would like. But he gave something to basball besides having 1. More basehits than ANY other player.2.Having played more winning games than ANY other player. He played with all his heart. Watch the game today and find a player that matches that!!!!!
