ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Bills president Tom Donahoe has at least one more candidate to interview for Buffalo's vacancy after spending most of Thursday with Penn. St. head coach Joe Paterno.

Donahoe said he had an interview scheduled for Friday, Bills spokesman Scott Berchtold said. Berchtold would not identify the candidate or provide details of Donahoe's meeting with Paterno. The Penn St. legend is the sixth candidate the Bills have interviewed in the last week since not rehiring Gregg Williams, who completed the third and final year of his contract.

Paterno is considered one of the leading contenders for the job because of his many years with Penn. St. and his offensive expertise. Buffalo is coming off a discouraging 6-10 season in which its Drew Bledsoe-led offense finished among the worst in the NFL. Coach Paterno declined to say whether the Bills had made him an offer, adding he hoped to have a better idea of where he stood by this weekend.

On Monday, the Bills interviewed former Chicago Bears coach Dick Jauron and their own defensive coordinator Jerry Gray, whose unit finished among the NFL's best this past season.

Last week, Donahoe met with Patriots coaches, defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, and Rams defensive coordinator Lovie Smith. Under NFL rules, the Bills are barred from resuming talks with those three coaches until their teams complete the postseason.

Say it ain't so Joe.I have been a Paterno fan for many years but I think this would be a big mistake for him.Let's face it. He is nearing the end of his coaching career soon if not already in a decline.Coaching rich spoiled Pro players has got to be quite different than the college scene.

After what Washington went thru with Spurrier, I would be surprised at this, and at JoePa`s age? The Nittany Lions haven`t exactly been doing much lately either!?

Who will go after Noll, Knox, and Bud Grant?

Ok, let's clear this up right now ....

Joe Pa,
If you have your tri-focals on and can read this - DO NOT ... I repeat DO NOT for the love of football coach the Bills. You've destroyed enough programs in the north east this decade
