Read Stephen Nover's new article called "Fleece the sucker" by going to the RX home page at www.theprescription.com

Then, find out Shrink's top-10 offshore sports books and read an article by Wild Bill called "Take the risk".

Polls, press releases and News on the Web can also be found on the RX home page.

Starting next year, we will have a quiz twice per week on the home page where we will be giving away RX golf shirts.

Talk about killing the goose that laid the golden egg. Corporate Vegas seems to not care about the average, have some idea of what he is doing, gambler. They want famlies to make Vegas a vacation destination, and let an unsuspecting mom and pop blow most of their money on games they have NO CHANCE to win at. A lot of us yearn for the good ole days of the 70's, when real oldtimers used to yearn for the golden era of the 50's. I will admit I miss Las Vegas, having lived there for 15 years, but the more of this kind of thing I hear, I realise the Las Vegas I miss, is gone forever.

I spent lots of time there from '93 to '98.
Things were starting to turn sour, but were still great compared to what I hear now.
If you were a known table player in the hotel you could still get about whatever you needed done in the sportsbook.
I hear those days are gone.
The changes in the BJ rules are highway robbery. But heaven help any of us who might be an "advantage player". We will get booted so they can cripple all the novices in the place.
Very sad that the overwhelming odds in the casino's favor are not enough. GREED!!
None of us should EVER play one hand of BJ at the 6/5 tables. Screw them.
Reminds me of all the other states taking everyone's nestegg with the lotteries. The odds there are only made to payoff all the politicians and all their family who can get into a corrupt job!
Not a very pretty picture of corporate Vegas and politics in general!

A few corrections to Mr. Nover's article, or more accurately, to Steve Fezzick's information.

The 75% hold (25% payout) claimed on the NASCAR prop assumes that every driver in the group of four has an equal chance of finishing ahead of the other three. Naturally, that's rarely the case, and there are probably instances of groups in which one driver might have a 50% or higher chance of outfinishing the other three. If three instances of a 53% probability exist, the three-driver parlay of 6-1 (7 for 1) becomes profitable. That said, I'd estimate the hold on that prop to be around 30%, better than that of most futures (Super Bowl, World Series, etc.) wagers.

There's a reason that less than half of all casinos have poker rooms (it would be closer to 40% than the 50% claimed): poker is one of the lowest money-earners per-square-foot. Most poker rooms are in an out-of-the-way location that wouldn't make much money at anything else. The state yearly poker win of $65 million can be compared to the total win from all gaming of about $9.5 billion. in other words, poker represents about 0.7% (about 1/150th) of total gaming win.

That said, the lowering of the blackjack payoff to 6-5 is a move by the casinos to get the hold on blackjack up to a level comparable to other table games. It isn't a matter so much of the casinos being money grubbing (although they obviously want to maximize profits). It's a matter of blackjack not offering a high enough win per-square-foot compared to other games.

If Mr. Fezzick wants to complain about a ripoff, he can address the changing of the Deuces Wild video poker payout on four of a kind from 5-1 to 4-1. That had the effect (with the few cosmetic increases on payouts of some other hands) of turning a 100.6% machine into a 95.5% machine. Since there are dozens of deuces wild machines in any major casino (hundreds in some), that adds up to quite a bit of money over a year's time.

The real question to Vegas veterans is would you ever sit a 6 to 5 Black Jack table? I like to play BJ and play an aggresive basic strategy well (I don't count anymore), but would never sit at one of these new lower payoff tables, NEVER.

Hey Wil!

Of course, the reason you would never sit there, is you know you could not win!

Apparently many people are not as smart as you! (But I am sure we knew that already)

Seriously though, how dumb does Vegas think we are.

The hold on a BJ table has very little to do with the house edge using basic strategy. When you factor in greed, stupidity, and all the other human conditions Vegas is preying on....
The hold becomes a massive % that they don't even want to discuss.

This last statement is BALLS On ACCURATE!

True, when you are talking about the hordes of recreational tourist players who sit down to play everyday. My point is that the sharper, and very disciplined BJ players, who are willing to buck the small house edge, are finished, with this new 6 -5 snapper payoff. IMO. Corporate Las Vegas could care less, in fact, it's most likely good riddance, for most Stip casinos.

I would never sit at a 6-5 BJ table but whenever I get the chance I get my money out and go to sit down then loudly call it "rip-off" blackjack as I leave. I know it's a losing battle since the average sheep goes to Las Vegas with a budget for how much they plan to lose.

There are still some marginal deuces wild games. I got a 15% cash back (to $100) win or lose offer for signing up at the Stratosphere, good on any slots including video poker. Spent 15 minutes scouring the floor to find a 1-2-3-4-4-10-16-25 machine taking $1 that has a 99.728% payback. While putting in enough to get my $100 back I hit a wild Royal and five of a kind so I was lucky to get a nice win before rebate.

The poker explosion is very encouraging as I like to get my share of the tourist spending. Not all rooms are in back corners. I think the Bellagio room has an excellent location and as I arrived on the first day of the $10,000 no-limit World Poker Tour I was amazed by how busy their room was all week.

I know I'm not typical but I had a very enjoyable week in Las Vegas, staying in lowest cost hotels, Stratosphere and The Orleans, and with a rental car for the week. I was fortunate to be able to cover all my expenses, including air-fare, so while not making money I did have a free vacation.

However I agree entirely with the article. Four Queens is testing a new blackjack variant called blackjack switch, where you play two hands and can "switch" the second card dealt to each hand. Online casinos (Playtech software) offer this game with 3-2 blackjacks and dealer pushes on 22. The return is about 99.9% against perfect play but the strategy is very complex. Fours Queens offers it at even money on blackjack, making the game unplayable, in a situation where the average player is likely to play at a 2-3% disadvantage anyway even with 3-2 blackjacks.

I for one would love to see this parlay card, the guy who does there Nascar is not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.you should see his odds after they qualify you want to talk about robbing the public.I would like to bet that this card wont last because the sharps will tear them apart on it.why do you think alot of places dont put matchups up till after qualifying.

The casinos that cater to locals, such as Gold Coast, Sam's Town, etc., still offer a few machines the traditional 5-9 Deuces game. But they also offer a lot of the 96% machines, and the good ones are out of the way and off the main path. They certainly aren't the ones that the tourists will be likely to sit at while walking any of the main aisles.

Most people are suckers from the point of view that they come expecting to lose money in Vegas. To think that the house needs to give them a decent shot at winning just ignores the fact that the vast majority really don't care one way or the other. Vegas isn't for value gamblers anymore, hasn't been for a few years now. Everything is a profit center now, even the gift shop has outrageous prices. I mean spending $60 on a sweatshirt that is a free ad for the casino, how ridiculous is that?

I do note that when in casinos with 6/5 BJ payouts that those tables are never filled unless all the tables are filled. I don't think people will ever buy off on it unless that is all they offer. If you offer it on only a few tables with the idea that you can tell the world you have one-deck games, then you won't get much business from it. Outside of the big Strip palaces, I don't think the game will ever get traction as something to put in as 100% of the tables. As for the parlay cards, well not much to say other than business as usual. They have some 4-way props on football games too. The people that play the bad cards are putting in $10 on a flyer, not expecting to win anything. The concept of true odds is so far from their minds, they couldn't care less. If no one ever played the cards, they wouldn't be offered so obviously it is mind-numbing fun for some suckers.

Not that it is anything to be proud of, or ashamed of, for that matter, but I have never once, in my long sports betting career, played a parlay card.

Don't forget to mention Jacks or Better Video Poker paying 1-1 for 2 pairs. I was in Vegas August of 2002 for a Bachelor Party and start noticing the "subtle" changes of Vegas.

mvbski, I am not saying they are good, or bad, I just never bet on any. Plenty of times I would glance at the old Frankenstein cards at the Castaways, which were the beggining of prop bets as we know them today. My philosophy has always been if the house puts up something new, that you can bet, it can't be in the players favor. Thats just me.

MVBSKI - One of Bill Dark's regular customers asked Bill how many runs he thought the Dodgers and Cardinals would score one Sunday afternoon (Both teams had excellent pitchers going that day) and Bill said he didn't anticipate that either team would score more than three runs.

The regular bettor said he would wager that the two teams would combine to score more than 7 runs, and thus the 'over/under' bet was born.

That's the story I heard anyway when I first moved to Vegas in 1981.
