Gonzales - I considered, but not enough tenure yet to qualify

Other honorable mentions; Russ Francis, Raymond Chester,Jay Novacek, Keith Jackson..not many stood out til late 70`s early 80`s... I think Winslow and Newsome were the two that changed the position. Becoming as available as any reciever on the field...

Mike Ditka was the prototype of the modern era tight end. The best ever has to be (imo) Ozzie Newsome. Nicknamed the “Wizard of Oz,” Newsome became the leading tight end receiver in NFL history with 662 receptions for 7,980 yards and 47 touchdowns. He ranked as the fourth leading receiver when he retired.

BTW. Dave Casper deserves some mention.

J-Lo in the movie U-turn has her tight end tore up by Sean Penn. Check it out you'll thank me later. That little asian chick with braces in Porno, Avena is not bad.

Bavaro's numbers don't make it. He will never be in the HOF. How can he considered among the best ever?
TOTAL 126 games 351 Rec. 4733 Yards 13.5 Ave. 39 TDs. Not in the top 50 overall (not tight ends only) in any major categoy.

Newsome has become a great front office man with Baltimore, the main reason the Ravens have drafted so well....

Brian Sipe to "The Wizard of Oz" on the 18 yard out pattern was automatic!

That's a heck of a list ...

I'd have to go with Newsome, but Christiansen and Sharpe are just as good IMO

Check the stats and see how many have 500 career receptions, then add Frank Wychek (Maryland Terps) to the list.
