For example if the odds are way off & you know they have posted an incorrect line how do you react...

A) Ignore it knowing it will be cancelled by the bookie
B) Pound it, taking advantage of the bookies mistake & hope the mistake goes unnoticed
C) Play it lightly, not to draw attention
D) Call the bookie & advise them of their mistake.

the answer is D they will look back at all the bets made at the wrong number and cancel them, sometimes the book might throw you a bone for doing it

D - they usually give you some consideration for doing this and you don't have to worry about your play being voided...people that bet into an obvious bad line are asking for what they get in my opinion. yes, the book should be smarther, but people make mistakes every now and then. seems easy to me

We expect honesty from the book. No reason we do not play by the same standards.

Here we go again. I'm sorry, but I'm not about to call a book to tell them their head is up their ass. I played one at sportsbook.com last year with a 17 college hoops favorite getting 17 points instead, collected and never heard a word. I even deposited an extra 400 to hit it a second time and nothing ever happened. Some of you I know think this is outrageous, I think I am dealing with the food chain in this business and if I can find an angle I'll take it. I am gambling to begin with. A smaller book is obviously going to have a different approach and even the large book might take action. Still looks like gambling to me. If they kick me out they kick me out. If the automatic teller gives me an extra bill I'm not running to the bank to tell them. They're a big institution designing every possible way to siphon every possible cent off me so I'm not going to waste my time for their behalf. But at the same time if an employed cashier gives me too much change I always point it out without hesitation. If I find a wallet I contact the person and return it unscathed. There's my morality, fwiw - screw the for-profit institutions if you can, but never cheat an individual.

I know I'm not alone here, but perhaps this side of the argument rarely gets posted in public. I placed that wager with complete integrity and would have said as much if I was confronted. They put it up and I bet it. The risk imo, after seeing several of these threads now, is getting booted. I can live with the rest.

4-2 so far

I am in the middle somewhere which is why I created the poll...will vote after more good arguments presented...

I am definately with you on the institution vs individual however...I would not call the bank if I found 500$ extra in there...i would just wait & see...after all I pay them more than that each year in services, way way more than that...

Man...i have to make alot of phone calls to SIA...
ROTFLMFAO

Anyhow talking about the individual a friend of mine once was playing Blackjack in a huge casino where all the dealers were properly numbered. He got paid too much at some stage and informed the dealer. The pit boss saw it too and wrote down the no. of the dealer. If I get paid too much in a casino, I will just never ever say anything!

Pretending, great forum name for you! I can't believe you had the audacity to use the word integrity in your post. To have integrity is to have it in all manners; not just when it benefits you. I have twice had an ATM give me more than I requested, and twice I had an ATM give me less than I requested but got charged for it. All four cases I talked to the bank manager and he corrected the problem. And yes, I paid them the $130 that they had overpaid.
You would scream holy hell if you requested an amount and didn't get it, yet you seem proud that if given the chance you will steal money and point the finger elsewhere: it's a big institution, it's someone elses responsibility, they have enough money, they gave me the 'angle'.

"I placed that wager with complete integrity"

Hardly!! You placed that wager completely devoid of integrity as a punk that wanted to take a shot. You're the same type of guy that would find a mistake in your bank account and immediately spend it, then bitch about it when the bank came back and said it wasn't yours and you have to return it.

When I get overcharged I let someone know about it; when I get undercharged I do the same. I had a clerk ring up a suit that I thought would be about $700, the bill was $240. I didn't hit the lottery there, they made a mistake, I corrected it, and I got the suit for $500. The clerk saved her job and I got a discount; I couldn't have asked for more.

There are certainly enough 'pretenders' on this forum, maybe you have chosen the right forum name after all: "Pretending" the man that will lead you to the world where honesty, integrity and common sense have left the realm of discussion.

it's amazing that someone would bet a line they know is wrong and steal from a book and say that it's ok,but if that same book wrongs them they cry for everyone to hear

Thanks for sharing that Otherwize. I tend to be sensitive about attacking others, even if I'm not heroic when it comes to bad lines.

fwiw, I have been shorted by a bank and didn't bother with it, so we are different on a couple of accounts.

Love and light

Pretending- In the long run, you will not prosper with your reasoning.

As a friend, here are some words of wisdom, do as MVPSKI as recommended and in the very end you will come out way further ahead in the long run.
