Six NBA teams scored less than 80 points on Wednesday night! In addition, 13 teams have set franchise records this season for lowest scoring game ever.

Why do you think scoring is down to an average of 92 PPG in the NBA this season?

I was watching beyond the glory on D Wilkins a couple days ago and the big thing I noticed was the size of players then. Tall & thin mostly. There was room in the lane to play. These days I think these big bulky men take up so much room that it is harder to work the lane for players, resulting in more teams shooting trifectas which at 30% best results in low scoring. Just a thought.

General - Do you think that doing away with the three-point line entirely would INCREASE scoring or DECREASE it? Or, how about changing the size of the lane?

I think if the 3 point line was done away with it would make for better basketball. And, yes more scoring. Shooting from 3 point land has the lesser % and if the players would step in 2 feet, they would increase their overall FG %. The 3 point line is popular in college but it ruined the game for me. a guy like bobby knight coaching good principles of ball movement and teamwork, gets his easy layup off the motion and the other team hurries down the court and hits a 3, now the better coached team is down 3-2. I do not like. I do think that the scoring would be more without the 3 pointer in NBA. As for the lane, not sure it matters. These guys are getting huge.

General, I think the reason for the three-point line was to give the "little" guy more of an opportunity to score, since the players in the lane WERE getting bigger. It also gave the team that was behind a better opportunity to catch up, making for more exciting finishes.

Do you think the NBA allowing zone defenses has also hurt the scoring?

Yes, the zone allows more of a mess in the lane. I also notice alot of wild shooting as one tries to drive the lane against these monsters with their arms all reaching. This causes some silly looking, not so good shooting, which leads to misses.

Although the wild shots that go in help ESPN with highlights LOL
