I tried it for a couple weeks with small money, but there isn't much of a market there. Seems like maybe 2 or 3 bookmakers are making all the volume.

Bill,
Can you do an exclusive of why GreGG Williams wasn't the first coach fired? I'd take that imbilice Dan Reeves over the GreGG and Gilbride circus any day.

Thanks.

You might think of doing a three-part series on P2P betting systems. They seem to have exploded like poker sites and it would be useful to know which are at all worthwhile.

Maybe I will do one. All I know is that they suck for Americans, the Brits have great sites to use and bar us. The ones that do allow Americans have no liquidity and after the 5% commission are no better deals than just betting with a book.

On Parbet I put up offers not far from the live price for a bunch of soccer matches and not once was the order filled. I bet a few soccer matches where someone offered a decent price, but after doing the math I figured I was maybe getting something with 1-2% better value. There were a lot of offers, but they were all large lots so it seemed obvious that a bookie or two was in there hoping to get some action, but I doubt they did much.

The problem with the markets is that the bots snap up all the soft numbers. Tradesports is one such example. I accidentally posted a 63 instead of a 53 for a baseball game for ten $10 shares ONE HOUR before the game was scheduled to begin. They were all gone within 10 seconds, before I had a chance to delete and reenter them. It'd be hard for a human to react that fast, and there's no way that anybody is going to be monitoring that one game that far in advance of the first pitch, imo. It's not impossible on these interactive servers that the host server itself has a resident bot that monitors soft numbers and has "first dibs" on them (although I'm not implying that any particular interactive site such as Tradesports does this). As said by Bill, there are a few bookmakers that are providing all the markets.

This is for informational purposes only and isn't an implication that Parbet does these things.

Bill's post hardly portrays the current US P2P market accurately,

what a shock.

What we need is a consulting company to develop software and become market makers for all the dead exchanges simultaneously. Seems like a pretty lucrative idea for any of you sitting on your ass all day looking for a big score, you can charge the exchange consulting fees and make $$$ as a market maker.

Craig if this ends up being you, I will hunt you down and I am tireless.

If you could make this a legal proposition, I would be willing to listen to proposals and cash flow projections, with the idea of funding it at traditional venture capital rates, as opposed to rates currently used for $$$ in this industry.

How does it not portray it accurately? Where can a US resident go out and play in a pure P2P situation where you get the kind of liquidity and depth that you see in a Betfair? Being a single market maker would be a slow proposition in developing, I think the fact remains that US sports are served by bookmakers that offer fairly low juice and who offer different prices which can lower that juice for a bettor even more. Betfair and other UK exchanges do well because much of the money is focused on soccer and horse racing, two sports that have much higher vig for the traditional bookmaker.
