That's interesting, but if they don't sign him I'm trying to figure out who would be in the market for a high-priced catcher. The big budget teams all seem set at that position, NY's, LA. Would /could Boston part wit Varitek?

Cubs maybe reel in another Fish?

Without competition, Pudge may be surprised that he can't get the 10x4 he's looking for. Might have to settle for 7 or 8.

they just wont cough up the $$ pudge wants & deserves. florida only wants to give him a pay cut, even though he is argueabley the biggest reason they took it all.

they wont pay pudge above 10 mil a yr but that is what he was already making and is easily worth 14-15 mil without a scoff.

just sad. florida wins 2 championships both of them tainted by lame off season moves (or lack of moves).

there is no excuse here. it is not like they have the rediculous payroll like in '97.

Rob, "worth" is simply a function of ehat the current market will bear...and I just want to know WHO is going to give him that kind of money. Not some theoretical team, but an actual team that would pay him that. I don't see who it would be?

D2,

I agree with you. Pudge is a great player, but there's not a lot of teams that have spending money AND are looking for a catcher. I'm thinking maybe Orioles, but supposedly they're after Javy Lopez.

WAS THINKING THE EXACT SAME THING.....

CUBS HAVENT HAD A GOOD HITTING CATCHER SINCE KEITH MORELAND, YEARS AGO.......

WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE HIM AND HIS ARM BACK BEHIND THE PLATE, NOT TO MENTION HIS BAT...

Are you thinking of Jody Davis? I don't think Moreland ever played catcher for the Cubs. I actually don't think I-Rod will land with the Cubs. Supposedly though the Cubs are talking to Pitt about Kendall...anothet good hitting catcher. He has a huge contract and Pitt would have to eat a lot of it though.
