I spoke with Ken and the new ownership of the RX tonight, want to pass on some of the discussion. For starters they are committed to making this a better place for posters. I started a thread yesterday about bannings and after speaking with them tonight I am pleased to report back we are all on the same page. I had no idea when I posted yesterday what the brass thought on any of this, I was just so frustrated with the crap that has been posted of late that I knew something needed to be done. I have always seen our roles here as mods to be a sort of a go between for both the owners and the posters. The owners give us an indication of what they want and we try and implement it, the posters provide us feedback (directly and indirectly) which we send to the owners. Ultimately the mods don't own the site nor is it here for our pleasure, if anyone needs to be neutral in all this it's us. Tonight when I hear the ownership is on the same page as we are it is refreshing to hear and good news for the posters. We will make a strong commitment to cleaning up the forum and ridding ourselves of the posters who are only here to ruin it for everyone else. For 99% of you this will not have any bearing on you whatsoever other than the troublemakers slowly disappearing. Most posters come and want to find out information about a game, post a pick, play in a contest or just hang out and be sociable. For the 1% of people who are here to carry out agendas, incite trouble, and show off to their friends about how disruptive they can be those folks will be asked to move on.

Before I started here I thought people would sort of govern themselves without much mod interference, posters would act like adults and respect others. I have learned nothing can be further from the truth. Hatred, revenge, greed, and vindictiveness is what some people come to their computer for everyday. Not only do they want to be ugly towards others they look for an excuse to unload on someone. You scan 50 posts from a guy and there is not one halfway decent post to or about anyone then why he is here? It's one thing to have a contrary opinion but those can be expressed without someone going out of their way to be nasty to people. I know firsthand folks who do not post on these sites because of posters who run amok and are not called on their obnoxious behavior. I have said from day one I would not have a site before I allowed some of these idiots to go unchecked. I believe in our talks tonight the crew here is dedicated to ridding itself of the troublemakers. I want to say this as well, the RX does not care about other forums. I notice others like to try and instigate site wars, not only is it okay elsewhere but their posters are encouraged to go to the RX and start trouble. If they come and act up then they get high fives from the posters elsewhere, as juvenile as this sounds it's effective for some to continue to disrupt our forums. That will end as well. We think other sites are good for players and our only interest is in being the best we can be here. If the only way you can look good is by tearing others down you need to work a little harder. Some places enjoy that Jerry Springer approach but we don't want any part of it. Again I don't want to come across as a site that will terrorize it's posters but we are going to raise the bar around here. Instead of just going back and banning the 20 or so that probably has earned it we decided to ask respectfully these people knock off the silliness that has been going on. If you can't do that than you are better off at the other sites. We owe it to ourselves, our advertisers, and our posters who enjoy this place to do better in this area. Instead of a mod being questioned for why did they ban someone the question better served will be why didn't we ban that person. Other places pay posters to post and will accept anyone, here we will ask that people act as reasonable adults or visit elsewhere. Not being mean just being honest, we know we are going to lose some posters but in the long run this forum will be the better for it.

We are under new owners and there will be some changes like this. Things will be tinkered with, people will come and go, new ideas will be tested and so on. In the pick forums for instance we are wrestling with the idea on featuring games versus not featuring them. We get strong feedback which is good but some things the new group just wants to give a chance to. In the end this site is here for the posters. We make no bones about where we are going, eveything this group wants to do is geared towards making this a better site for all of us. Are we going to make a mistake here or there? Probably. But in the end we have folks who not only want to maintain all the great things we have here but improve on the other stuff as well. Thanks to all of you for making us #1. If any time we can assist or you just have a comment please feel free to write - patrickmcirish@therx.com

Blue - I think so too. In today's society the push is to be liberal enough for anyone to say anything but the line has got to be drawn somewhere. People just will not hold themselves to any degree of accountability. Thanks for the feedback.

the problems don't come in when there are threads about cheese or other oddities. its when quality threads are ruined by flaming and hatefilled comments that pulls the quality down. its very tough to weed out the garbage with out upsetting everyone, but its better for the site as a whole.

Screw the threats, i think you guys should make a list of all the undesirables. We can call it Weitzners list, name all the troublemakers and rebel rousers. Run them out now, and be done with it. Hell, we can even get NASA back on board. We can get a nice slice of Mr. Champions advertising pie, Im sure the new owner needs a new ski boat?

McIrish nice post. I know for a fact that i can speak for myself and a lot of my friends when i say that if the negativity is taken away from these forums that i along with my pals will spend a hell of a lot more time here. good luck with your mission. I need a drink and a good 4-5 hours sleep. It's been a long night adding up nothing but losers.

Thanks guys. There will be a lot of screaming, moaning, whining, and bitching along the way but we will get there. Hard to break an established pattern of behavior people are used to but it can be done.

Wife's been trying to get me off the couch for years though with little to no success.

Patrick, good post..

In the future, your posts would be easier on the eyes and have more flow if you used more paragraghs.

While I agree with Pat's post I also think you can't over moderate. I don't believe someone is a "troublemaker" just because they disagree a lot. I don't think that should be a problem. The problems begin when people become disrespectfull. Slander is another problem of course.

Actually most "posters" come here with an agenda in mind. Some are pro-Rx, some are anti-Rx, some are pro-something, some are anti-something. Most READERS just come here for information. They're the smart ones who don't post because they're afraid of getting raked over the coals by one of the caustic many.

quote:
It's one thing to have a contrary opinion but those can be expressed without someone going out of their way to be nasty to people

You should practice that yourself. You often punctuate your opinions with "LOL" and other annoying things.

quote:
I believe in our talks tonight the crew here is dedicated to ridding itself of the troublemakers.

How about having your own crew here (Fishhead and Journeyman for example) stop causing trouble on other sites?

I disagree. The paid here still create controversy in the name of traffic, and it isn't send it off to the Rubber Room until it's run its course and gotten all the hits it's going to. If you're going to change that, then it'll be an improvement.

In my opinion, "Teaser Guru" is a ghost of Shrink.

There. That was done without being nasty or calling anybody names. Wanna bet that somebody here trots out the Bipolar Butch routine, the "take your meds" routine or something else that attacks the poster (me) and not the post?

The old, does meeting someone and liking them make someone a ghost of them? I beg to differ. I have met and happen to like a lot of people in the off-shore industry. the shrink happens to be one of them. I am sorry but if certain people get the backs of others on this site, it certainly to any prudent individual correlate to "ghost status". BTW, what the f.ck is wrong with getting the back of someone, especially when you think they are right. Hey, you don't know me from adam, but i will tell you that my brothers and sisters will always get an EARFULL from me if I think they are wrong. the sad thing about people like you is that you deem anyone here who says anything nice, or is remotely loyal to someone as a ghost or shill. Your problem is that you don't realize that in life there are good people and bad people. I happen to be one of those who likes to accentuate the positive. if my children do poorly in school, i don't drive their failures into the ground. I always try to make them remember their successes. Like Mcirish said earlier, this site has more than enough conspiracy theorists like yourself. It would be nice if it had a little more balance with guys like me who actually would like to help others with some gaming info, (check the offshore handicapping section), and a little less of guys like you who want to make petty little guesses as to who is a ghost or a shill like a little snivelling child. when this site really weeds out the negative people who only want to circulate cynicism and promotes good people who want to use this site to make us all a lot of muuuny, then we will start going places. sorry to burst your bubble old ballgame, but i am nothing but an old man who wants to do better as a gambler and spread a little holiday cheer, certainly not a ghost of the shrink. good night, 3 am is late enough for me.

Butch - am I reading that correctly? Someone is going out of their way to be nasty by saying LOL? I thought that stood for laughing out loud? Why would anyone take that as being nasty towards them?

As far as the rest I appreciate your opinion, don't always agree but we don't have to. Teaser Guru is not Shrink, I just ran his IP#. Don't know where you got that from but it's incorrect. As far as the Bi-polar Butch stuff that is not necessary, it never was. That all came about here long before I was around. I read about it as a poster here like everyone else but that war was not with me. I think it's bad taste to kid someone about that even if it happened to be true about a poster. I do think you have gone over the line (the RX hacking stuff) but overall I enjoyed your wrestling and poker stories and have no beefs with you. I think I have told you that before Butch. Guys like you that post elsewhere are more than welcome here, we don't care if you post at 15 different sites. All I ask is when you visit us here you treat us with the same respect you'd appreciate if it was your site. Hang in there sir and thanks for the feedback.

I could understand you a lot better if you'd learn to write in paragraphs instead of run-ons. Just a thought...

p.s. many people have this problem, there oughtta be a 12-step group for it

Skyweasel, are you guys in Mad. insomniacs also? Any thoughts on your college hoops team this year? I need some winners, and doc's sports ain't cutting it for me. Actually doc's is one of the few honest services, but i haven't heard much about your squad this year. All I know is that i am supposed to bet under every game.
