Will either player give his team the upperhand?

I think Shilling , Boston already has the offense, now they have a great 1-2 punch to go with it

Unless they (Pedro and Curt) both get 'old' over the offseason

Boston made out better this year, but I don't think anyone should have given a 38 year-old power pitcher a 4 year-deal (just my opinion).

Shef hasn't actually signed yet, I think.

I hear the Yanks are after Kevin Brown & Colon now

NY

Sheffield is just such a good hitter. Schilling is getting old.

Too bad NY is also bringing back Boone. Not a good move IMO.

New York makes out best of the two deals because the Yankees could use the extra offense provided by a reliable Gary Sheffield. The Yanks already have good enough pitching (although there is always room for improvement).

On the other hand, Boston picks up Schilling who has been a great pitcher in the latter stages of his career. But at this point, it appears to me that Schilling is on the downside of his career. He still shows signs of greatness in some outings, but overall, he has shown a high level of inconsistency over the past couple of years.

Once again, the Yankees get the best trade.

If I'm not mistaken SHilling broke in with Boston before being traded to Baltimore? I could be wrong...

pitching beats hitting in the playoffs

besides - as someone who lives in the LA area - and saw sheffield play here - he is a major league clubhouse cancer.

the guy is NEVER happy and ALWAYS finds something he feels is slighting him. i give him until june before he "cries" about something and how he is mad at that entity.

sheffield is a loser and hopefully he will be the divisive "force" he has been so many times in the past.

Journey..

I know.. atleast no one should have lost on that game.. plenty of 7.5 for BG bettors and plenty of 8's for toledo. but I'll say I got mighty lucky in that game.

I wrote it off as yet another backdoor cover against me.

As bad as I have been going, I swear I figured it was 50/50 he would make the kick! The kicker was awful in that game, but then the damn QB dropped it! WTF?!

Pitching doesn't always win in the playoffs. Ask the Oakland A's who threw 3 top pitchers year after year in the playoffs & can't get past the first round.

You need a combo of everything with one of the biggest being middle relief & relief pitching which are two areas I don't think the Sox are really strong at.

Sheffield is almost a lock for at LEAST 35 homers 115 rbi. and a .305 or better avg.

I would NOT consider Schilling a lock to win 16 games. Age is definetly a factor, but hopefully he will be able return it up a notch like the Rocket did.

LMAO! why do people pick on curts age. guys you should check out sports.

shef is only 2 (say it to yourself) 2 yrs younger than schilling.

if anyone thinks its the yanks who got the better end of the deal you have paris hilton type intellect.

if you said yanks and then also offered anylasis for it you have "tell me about the rabbits george" type mentality.

You are an idiot.

Hitters tend to get better with age especially when it comes to power numbers (to a point), remember Harold Baines?, Barry Bonds?, probably not.

Pitchers start covering up their pain in their twenties. Big difference.

If you had any experience, you would know this.

ummm didnt curt beat the yankees twice in 3 days in the world series when he was 35?!

stop hating! just becuase the yanks wound up with that joker in a panic move doesnt mean people have to lose their intelligence and have lame responses to the question posed in this thread.

geroge also said he wanted no one signed until schilling talks were completely dead. so yea from both the yanks and the red sox themselves I'd say bosox definatly got the heads and shoulders above player.
