CLOSE, but no cigar!!!

Played Texas holdem last night at an establishment where they have a PROGRESSIVE JACKPOT if you hit a SPADE Royal Flush. Started playing 3 days ago when the JACKPOT reached 26,000!

By last night the PROGRESSIVE had reached an astonishing $39,650! After about 3 hours of play I was dealt a 9-10 of spades and after an 8 and Jack of spades came on the flop, a Queen appeared on the turn to give me a QUEEN high SPADE STRAIGHT FLUSH! Close, but no cigar.

Now to add insult to injury, not more than 15 seconds later, a gentlemen at the very next table(there are 25-30 tables) hit the $39,650 prize! UN-FREAKING-REAL!

LEt me warn you of one thing. This has happened before at land based casinos where you are NOT allowed to discuss your hand.

MAKE SURE that when you feel that you are close the ROYAL that you DO NOT bet it at all!!!!!

If everyone folds and even if you had the royal but no one calls you, then you dont get paid!!

For example, lets say that you have the royal on 4th street and you bet the maximum of $5.00 or so. Then everyone else folds, then you get jack shit except for the money in the pot! Same thing for the river royal, if you get it and everyone folds then you dont win!

Good point.

But at the Hard Rock here in Tampa, they let you draw out if you have a shot at the Royal even if everybody folds......which happens about once every 1,000 hands at this place.
