Help plan my Vegas vacation!!!

So it's about 90% confirmed that I'm going to Vegas for the weekend of December 19th. I got quoted $319 for round trip airfare and 3 nights at New York, New York.

It's my first time going to Vegas...I'm pretty excited. I need your help when it comes to where to go, what to do etc.

I know I always hear about getting comps in Vegas. Is this easy to do? Can I expect to drink for free? What about eat for free? I plan on playing BJ at a pace of about $25 a hand.

And my buddy wants to make sure I ask where to get the best buffet, at a good price.

If your going to be playing BJ at $25 a hand make sure you get rated form the start. Talk to the pit boss before you even begin play.

Depends on how long you play. But dinner would be good. If you are not bringing your wife, or significant other, check out the Crazy Horse strip joint on Industrial Ave.

comps @ $25 per will all depend on where you play...e.g at the Venetian you would have to play for quite a while to get a decent comp, if you play at one of the Station Casinos or even a spot like the Rio, you should be able to get a nice meal at least but you may get a rooms, shows, etc as well...

Vegas is a blast...I wish I still lived in LA

if you do get comped dinner, ask to have something other than the buffet...

if you are going to have a buffet on your own dime, I like mandalay bay (couple different typed of crab last time I went) and the mirage's brunch is pretty good

If you play $25 per hand for an average of four hours per day, you should expect to get at least free meals and maybe even comped rooms from most of the strip hotels. But if you average that at a downtown or off strip hotel, you will get both room and meals comped.

i dont know but judging by that the other thread "sic bo" may be worth a try. . .if you can watch a vegas special on "the travel channel" you'd be hard pressed not to pick up some good tips

Do I have to sign up for a players card at the casino to get comps? Is there any way to influence the pit boss to give you special treatment?

yeah, just ask the dealer or the pitboss and they will set you up. most places have a desk where you can get one too

You are absolutely golden for comps if you keep your plans. That time you are planning on coming is the slowest time of year, bar none, in Vegas and all casinos. People are spending their money shopping and doing things with family and coworkers. Few go on trips to gambling cities when they are getting more time off a week later. In short you should be aggressive about asking for comps, that will be the one time the bosses will be happy to have a quarter player in house. Once those cowboys in for NFR (rodeo) leave town, the casinos start seeing $10 players as being good to have. Quarter player anywhere but top tier place should get food just about anywhere comped and a good casino rate on the weekend and a free room on Sunday-Thursday, maybe better if you stay a little down the food chain. For that action I usually suggest Tropicana or Flamingo for best value for comps, both places are struggling for business somewhat but have great locations. If you are willing to spend a little of your own coin go for the Rio or Treasure Island, both have decent food that you will be happy to get a comp for and if you do score a room both are nice.

Mainstreet Downtown has a pretty good Buffet. Bellagio'sis pricey, but well worth it if you like King(not snow) Crab legs. I used to favor larrys Villa myself, WBill

Most of the stuff has already been mentioned. If you are playing $25 a hand downtown they will treat you like a king. On the strip where you are staying they will give you free meals. First sign up for a players card at the promotions desk. Then when you start play make sure to give them your card so that you can get rated. After you are done playing ask for a meal. If you don't ask then you will get most of the comps sent to you in the mail for your next stay. Drinks are free while you are playing at the table. The only thing not included is the tip.

As mentioned Rum Jungle at the Mandalay Bay is a great bar for your first trip. Girls dance in cages as a nice bonus. For the strip clup make sure you go to the Crazy Horse Too. There was a Crazy Horse 1 which really sucked. It may even be out of business now. Olympic Gardens is also good. Lap dances are $20 each.

There are lots of cheap dinners and specials downtown if that's what you are looking to get. If you are looking for good restaurants then the Strip is what you want. The Rio has a great buffet. The lines are long so go at off hours such as 3 PM. If you want to see a great show I'd recommend Splash at the Riviera. Have fun.

Watch out for the blackjack games that only pay 6/5 for a blackjack. The rules card is usually off to the side of the dealer and may be small print.

Blackjack paying 6/5!!! What's the deal with that? Does anyone know which places have this stupid rule so I can make sure to avoid them?

It looks like we're staying at either Aladdin or New York. Some people have been mentioning getting rooms comped.....the rooms will be included in our package price. Do you think I would be able to ask for an upgrade to a nicer room?
