Folks, this evening I decided to go to the Casino here in Montreal for the first time in 5 months to go and check it out. I usually don't make a habit of going there, but I wish I didn't go, as I really did feel sick to my stomach. As I was going up the escalator on the 2nd floor, I saw this crowd of people around a table. There must've been about 35 people there crowding this table. So I was curious to see what that whole scene was about. As I make it there, I see this table that I've never seen in my life with all kinds of money on it and 3 dice. The game was called Sic Bo. WTF is a Sic Bo? I have NO IDEA. But I wish i didn't stay. It really broke my heart seeing these people playing this game. Here is why.. I have never in my whole entire life seen a game in a casino that was such a ripoff like this one. I did not play it, but it was so disturbing to watch. It is a dice game that has a house advantage that I don't even want to think about and try to figure out now. It is too late in the night and I am dead tired and my head hurts. But if this game does not have a house advantage of close to 30%, I will be shocked. Remember, basic strategy in blackjack has a house advantage of roughly 1%. So that tells you what this game is all about.

I don't like to see any people lose money at any time, especially in a casino. I really do have a soft heart for them. I know most of these people have no clue at all, but it still bothers me. I saw this nice elderly man with his wife and they were playing like 30 bucks every dice roll, and they were getting killed. I told him to stop playing because he has NO CHANCE, but he didn't listen to me. There must've been like 700 bucks every round of the dice on the table, and the casino was just eating up the players alive. The Casino must've made about 15,000 that hour alone just on that table. I begged a few people to leave and never play this game again by trying to explain to them why they can't win, but all they kept on saying was, I know i will make it back because i am due. And they were mad at me for trying to help. I even ended up in a big argument with the pit boss and asked them how they have the nerve to put up such a disadvantaged game for the player and called the casino a bunch of thieves. I made a very big scene. It was not pretty. How can they have the nerve to steal money like that from the ignorant? This can't be legal. This is stealing. Why not just rob them at gunpoint? It's the same thing.

And what bugs me is that people are stupid enough to play it, and I feel so bad for them. Anyways, bottom line is this old couple here lost like 800 bucks in 1 hr, and went broke. The man's wife looked like she was going to cry and so did he. I felt sorry for the guy and gave him 25 bucks for his cab because they had no money except 2 bus tickets and it was 5 am and they had to wait 2 more hrs before the buses start again. I hope i wasn't too mean to him but I made him promise that I would pay his cab ONLY if he never comes back, and if i caught him there again, I would take back that 25 bucks, plus another 25. I was serious, too. He agreed, but didn't seem too happy with me. He didn't even say thank you, as he was so distraught for losing his whole months pension of his and his wifes, and he left immediately. Looks like I will have to go back there again more often now and make sure the guy is not gambling behind my back, which we all know he will, once he gets more money..

It's really sad..

But back to this game. Has anyone ever heard of this game Sic Bo before? Is it popular at all? Do they have it in Vegas? When did this game come out? I have NEVER seen this game before. Is it new? Who the hell would ever play this game and why do they even offer it, when it is stealing.

Sickgambler, I was waiting for an explanation of how the game works throughout your whole post, but it never came.

Please explain the game so I can grasp why it is such a bad bet.

Did you really do such a generous thing like that?

Sic Bo is an ancient Chinese gambling game meaning 'Dice Pair'. It is played in Southeast Asia, Korea, Nevada and Australia. It is also popular in the Philippines, where it is called 'Hi-Lo'.

It is played with three dice. The object of the game is to select the individual numbers, or combinations of numbers, that will appear on the dice after the 'throw'.

The possibilities include single dice numbers, two of a kind, three of a kind, or combinations of any two or three of the dice. These are displayed along with payoff odds on the table's layout.

How to play Sic Bo

To start, the players make their selection of a possible outcome and place a bet on a chosen possibility. After the bets are made, the dice tumbler is rotated and then set on the table. All winning possibilities of the three dice appear illuminated on the layout.

Cheater,

There are 3 dice. If you call a 4 or 17 on the roll, you get 50/1 odds. You're basically getting 50/1 on a 1 in 72 chance. Talk about horrible odds.

If you call a 5 or a 16, you get 30/1.

If you call a 6 or 15, you get 18/1..

If you call 7 or 14, you get 12/1.

If you call a 8 or 13, you get 8/1

If you call 9 or 12, you get 6/1

If you call a 10 or 11, you get 6/1..

_________

If you figure out these odds, you will see how the casino here is stealing your money. This game should be illegal.. It should not be in any casino. I am awaiting someone tell me that they have this in Vegas. I hope not.

They had this game a couple of years ago at casino niagara. I was thinking this was the game you were talking about, and you're right players are getting raped. The casino has this game in front, once the players walk in they see the odds so they play, by the time the players leave the table they're broke and right out the door. They have this game on a promotional basis, haven't been up to casino niagara since last year who knows maybe its permanent.

Hey Jesus, I was at Casino Niagara a few months ago and i didn't see it.

Hey, since you are Jesus, why not tell them to get rid of the game in Canada completely. I am sure you have the power to do it since you are Jesus and they will have no choice but to listen to you or you will make their lives miserable.

Thanks Jesus.. Now go take care of them Jesus.

They have it in a few places in Vegas, forget where exactly. Yes, games like this disturb me also. This game ranks right up there with the Wheel of Fortune as a total rip-off.

God forbid, one person out of 10,000 can take the time to learn a count strategy in BJ and have a miniscue of an advantage and the casino wants to throw you in the slammer. On the whole, casinos disturb me and I get a great enjoyment out of beating them.

I've seen this game in a few places.

Yes, it's a sucker bet like most other mindless games in a casino but people will still play it anyway.

People love it because it is like slots, it is simple as hell and involves no thinking. It looks like a lot of fun too. Women and men who don't like to use their heads and want something simple and relaxing love it. Those were the types that were playing it tonight. Lots of couples.. It is sad because they have NO IDEA what they have gotten themselves into, and I saw the pitbosses just having a great laugh at these poor souls. It was very disturbing to watch.

Speaking of Jesus, I'd like to thank him for my 3 years here, because if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here today. I overlooked that 8.5 hrs ago, was my 3 years anniversary here at rx. It was 3 years ago today that I made my first official post at any forum. I can't believe it's been 3 yrs already. Boy does time pass fast. Man, we are getting old fast and the days are flying. Seems like I just started my first post last week.

Geez, wtf am i doing still up at this time? I think it's time for me to go to bed now, as I have not been to bed yet. I don't even know why i am not even tired. Man, I've got problems. I should go see a doctor. See you boys this evening when I wake up. I should go to bed now.

Jon Kyl wants to outlaw gambling games too.

he wants to protect people from their own stupidity.

gambling is (like) a zero sum game, someone has to loose money in order for you to win it.

games like that help keep the casino doors open, if you outlaw games like that then the casino will need to make up that revenue somewhere else, someone is gonna pay one way or another.

good luck

Want to see dumb, go look at this game in British Columbia casinos. They can't use dice there so they have a wheel spinning that looks like an oversized roulette wheel and these large wooden balls that customers roll down a long "canal", three balls must be released at once. The balls then make their way to the wheel and fall in one of 36 slots, each with one die on it, basically a number between 1 and 6. If you think 3 of a kind is difficult with dice, imagine trying it when the odds of getting a number are less than 1/6 as they are in this game! People used to love it last time I went into a BC casino, but I hear it has lost appeal somewhat since slots got going.

It was popular with the Asian community and there seemed to be some "skill" in releasing the balls, at least judging from some of the pit/player interaction.

They do pay 300-1 for triples, a fact that had me go home and calculate the odds since the chance is 1 in 216 for dice. As you remark the roulette style wheel means each ball position is not an independent event.

Note: there are 36 wheel positions with six sets of 1 to 6 numbered sequentially around the wheel.
