Is it insensitive of me to want these donations to go to some American based charities?Salvation Army? Mcdonald house charites? etc. Maybe I am naive, but I assume that at most of these books, the majority of clientel is American, sending American money. I don't want it to sound insensitive as I am sure there are deserving charities all over the world.. but I've always wanted to clean up our own house, before we go helping everyone else. Which is leading into a politcal debate.. but I do not want to take this thread there.

But I would like some feedback.. am I an ass?

An ass? No.
Missing the big picture? Probably.

The idea of charity is to help the less fortunate - NOT to help the less fortunate Americans.

I being a Costarican am inclined to promote the idea of donating to those needy in Costa Rica.

I think it is great that sportsbooks whose business has flourished in Costa Rica give back to their communities!

What is so wrong with taking care of your own first ? I am not missing the big picture. I know there are less fortunate people all over the world. But the majority of their money is coming from Americans. thus why I think it should be going to an American Charity.

I don't think they were thinking to use these threads as a mean to let everybody know how good-hearted they are. They're just trying to reach as many people as possible.

About giving back to communities..

I will also assume most book owners are American, originally. They are employing Costa Ricans(for example).. which is fine. But don't talk about giving back to communities.. when it comes down to it.. they are sucking money out of America.. not paying their taxes.. so what are they really giving back to their community?

K,
There's nothing wrong with it, but your attitude seems a little bit out of the spirit of the true meaning here. If a kid in Africa needs the help most getting food - then lets help them. If it's an elderly lady in CR then lets help her. If it's an Amercian family let's help them.

Most of these problems occur because of "our own first" attitudes. Bottom line - we're ALL humans, so let's help humanity.

well rail... it has to be like that...

but how about making it public, like this Teleton Program, shouting SportsBooks in CR
are sharing they're profits with charity...

That will be an A+ at the hour of any good/bad
calification of their activities,,

if american or not...
let's do it simple...
let's shout out
CR books give charity to CR ppl.
Curacao, Jamaica, Venezuela to their respective...

and USA,, oh.. probably las vegas to their poor nevada population...

charity is giving to the less fortunate ok?

it doesn't necessarily means that the helpee has to be a certain race or nationality.

btw, why don't you tell monkey bush to save his $ on wars and use those bucks to help the ppl in need?

As usual things are getting blown out of proportion on this forum. I am not "out of spirit" never once said anything to even suggest that. I am DISCUSSING where it should go. bottom line, it is going somewhere, and that is great.

I think one of the problems with these forums is that you can't detect the tone of someone's voice or their facial expressions. I have been on IM with people in the past and gotten so pissed of that i thought i was going to blow a gasket when in reality the person on the other end of the IM was being facetious. I think everyone should give others the benefit of the doubt unless they are known to be complete assholes. Just my two bits.

Mr. Kennedy,

I agree with you...to a point. I am a big fan of making sure that the less fortunate in America get help. It is amazing how many charities help the world's homeless....but not ours. If I was in the USA right now, I would be making sure my company was raising money for a homeless shelter, or the Red Cross, or something to that effect.

I have met the man in charge of Manitas de Amor. His name is Blake. He is an incredible human being, donating all of his time and energy to these orphaned children. Being that I am in CR, and I know Blake, I want to help his cause. To see this man constantly struggling to make it work is something else.

Mr. Kennedy,

PLEASE organize something. I, personally, will be the first to donate. You are a respected poster here, so I think you could get a couple of bucks thrown your way. Thanks.
