Two corrections with the story:

AladDin is not really across from Bellagio, maybe caddy corner, but Bally's and Paris are more correctly across from it.

Also, calling Aladdin a billion dollar casino is a bit of a misnomer since 1) they are being bought out and are in the process of changing ownership, and 2) they went into bankruptcy shortly after 9-11.

Just minor points, but they may help.

This is amazing, talk about stooping to a new low. The Aladdin management is absolutely positively terrible and everyone that is in the casino industry knows it. Their executives during the sale of the casino acted horribly just to protect their jobs because if another, better, offer had been allowed they would have been fired like they should have been. In their thinking the fact that things didn't get worse there for a year is good management, not the fact that they couldn't take a terribly performing place and make it much better. While this specific action surprises me, the casino that did it does not.

True Story..

When I was 14 and in Grade 7, I was the school bookie handing out parlay cards to all the students. My hold back then was unbelievable as alot of my NFL games were lines of -3 and -7, and all ties lost for the player. But out of my approx 60 regular parlay bettors, I had one guy who had a horseshoe up his ass. He hit his 5 teamer and won his 10 dollar card for 200 bucks. The next day, I paid his 200 and told him to get lost. I didn't want his action any longer. I feared him.. LOL.. I actually believed that since this guy went 5 for 5, then he must know something..

Boy, those were the days.

Charlie,
I wouldn't lie to you, I really can't get into either the link posted in this thread or onto the RX homepage...if I could I wouldn't ask for someone to post the story. If anyone can simply cut and paste the story into this thread so I can read it, thanks, I appreciate it.

Stew, I believe you! We will make an exception. The story appears below.

Football parlay cards have been a cash cow for Nevada hotels because of rip-off payouts and special ‘ties-lose’ formats. Nevada sports books won $51.5 million on football this past fiscal year, with nearly half deriving from parlay cards.

But turn it around - getting the best of the house on parlay cards - and you could find yourself banned from the property. That’s what happened to a bettor we’ll call Jack.

Comparing late line movements to parlay cards that were released in the middle of the week, Jack played multiple teams on five parlay cards at $60 apiece. Even if one gets the best of the number on some games, it still takes a lot of luck to hit a parlay with that many teams. But Jack got lucky, to the tune of $43,000.

The Aladdin paid Jack, but told him he would be arrested if he ever set foot in the Aladdin again.

“It’s outrageous,” Jack said. “I could see if they wanted to back you off and tell you they no longer want your action. But they never even told me not to play.”

Jack never had a problem betting at the Aladdin until he won this large amount of money. The Aladdin has multiple parlay cards, including a ‘ties-lose’ card. Jack said the Aladdin, which is located on the Las Vegas Strip across from the Bellagio, offers some of the worst odds and lowest payouts in Nevada. He said he uses the Aladdin to shop for betting lines because they sometimes have different numbers.

Places like the Aladdin try to take advantage of unsophisticated tourists with their parlay cards. But when a sharp bettor turns the tables, the house bans him. A phone message left with the Aladdin sports book seeking comment regarding this story was not returned.

“They don’t view it that way,” Jack said. “They view parlay cards as a cash cow that should just plough down all the bad bettors. They feel they should never lose.”

It’s amazing that a billion-dollar Strip hotel such as the Aladdin would act so petty about a payout that, for them, is a mere drop in the bucket. It’s not like there was any cheating involved.

“They advertise in Vegas that they like winners,” Jack said, “But when you win, it’s a big problem.”

Sick that is funny as hell. I hit the first parlay I ever played in high school. The next week I played another with the MNF game last with a middle shot if I won the first 4. I didn't get there but it opened my eyes to a world of possibilities.

I can tell you firsthand that Vegas sportsbooks can be a very strange entity since I personally worked in them for 10 years at a total of 4 different properties........one of them being the Aladdin. The corporate head bodies as a whole are completely out of the loop most of the time. I will be telling alot of good stories about this in my new book that will be published shortly.

sick,
I got a story like that. I took bets for a while when I was just out of college.

A recipe for disaster ( for the bookie) but what the hell did I know- I only had like 5 guys betting with me. 4 were small like 20-40 a game and were dumb and lost money, bet parlays, etc. One was a $200-$400 bettor and this guy got hot on me. Hit like 4 or 5 plays in a row. He calls me on NFL sunday. The line on Wash at Seattle was seahawks by 9.5. three of my small bettors already took seattle when this guy called. I was pretty sure he would too and I was nervous about all the action on one side. so instead of 9.5 I quoted the big guy 10.5. Sure enough he, takes washington +10.5.

Shit. And sure enough, the damn game middled, Seattle by 10. I paid everyone, but I got out of the bookie business. Probably good for me, cause I didnt know what I was doing.

I told the big bettor about Olympic and Carib. He had never bet on-line. He posted up with Olympic and told me he was very happy with them. I guess he's lucky I knew enough about offshores to send him someplace reputable.

I knew it was time to give up the bookie business. Like you, I was afraid of the big winner. I mean, he just scared me when he called. I'm sure the guy probably loses overall , but his roll was too much for me.

I heard Aladdin was one of the books that stood to lose serious cash on the Cubbies if they won the WS. Even though guys upstairs probably aren't in the loop day-to-day, they probably were harassing the book manager to do something to avoid these kinds of situations. If a real casino guy like a Binion or a Wynn heard about this, they would fire the manager for chasing this guy off. An idiot like the Aladdin or the guys running the Harrahs make them employee of the month for never forgetting that their core business is to kiss the slot players ass. No way around it.

Thanks CM...interesting story....two thoughts, first, Jack would be well off if every sportsbook in Vegas didn't allow him to bet another parlay, he'd be 43,000 ahead!

second...."The Aladdin paid Jack, but told him he would be arrested if he ever set foot in the Aladdin again."... this would never happen! The casino might not let him bet at the sportsbook, but they would let him play slots I'll bet you. and they might have their security 86 him but they'd never get Metro to arrest him unless he did something wrong....oops, I forgot I was in Vegas, Metro is as corrupt as hell and they just might arrest Jack.
