There are over 300 bonus whores in these forums combined, and over 200 posters using more than 1 name. This I know for a fact. I know many who have told me they have more than 1 acct, and books have also told me they have seen it often, but don't report it here because they don't mind getting the action for the bonus, so they let it go most of the time.

I have been told also that we give alot of sharp action. It is not for all books.

I think it kills the smaller books, but it's not cut and dry.

Pinnacle welcome that type of action.
Grande & Oly are too damn sharp to get hard by those types.

But you have a point - this is the demographic that surely kicked Gambler's Ave & BlueMarlin around.

These forums dont kill sportsbooks.

They bring a different type of action, and lots of it.

Forums bring more serious and therefore more sophisticated types of bettors.

It allows new books to start up, and when books achieve a player from a forum, they also must be ready for that player to leave because forums advocate trying new outs with new offerings. You cannot expect to hold onto a forum player unless you are offering a good product.

Forums have helped many books grow, and have helped the industry grow. They are a good thing.

The problem is, new and naive books who listen to each and every bonus whore and scalper, and make changes to appease these players who will get up and leave as soon as the competition offeres something better, is what causes those books to go under.

Find me one big offshore who's principals spend time in the forums, and Ill find you 10 times as many busted books who spent all day focusing on the forums and changed their offereings to fit forum players' wants and needs.

A forum is what it is, a place for bettors to share ideas and experiences. Its not a place to build a biz plan.

But those 3 offer very limited bonuses if any and that's the difference. Bonus whores can't beat Pinn/Grande/OLY out of $$ because they dont offer 20% initial/15% reload/free 1/2 point on friday/pay all transfer fees/referral fees etc.

Exactly Cast - they're too smart.

IMO you cannot survive over the long haul with a bonus based biz model.

GRANDE gives free neteller, that must cost them a bunch.

Guess they got enough whales playing there to overcome it.

What kills books is having all their eggs in one bookmaking basket. I was reading an article by one of the top guys at Ladbrokes who was saying in a decade as many as 5 or 6 years can be losing years.

They have bought out a chain of hotels (Hilton) which keeps them turning a profit even in the harshest of years for bookmaking and in years when sporting results are more favourable they make large profits which makes the bookmaking enterprise worthwhile.

I guess this year is a harsh one for bookmaking and we are seeing which books have been prudent during profitable years and which ones pi**ed away the profits.

This "culling of the herd" during harsh years ensures a survival of the fittest operating practices and ultimately should increase the strength of the offshore industry. I guess some newer places were unlucky in the fact that they didn't have the good years to create a nest egg to see them through the bleak times now being experienced.

Why do you link bonus whores with scalpers? I agree Bonus whores are bad for the books, but scalpers do the books a favor by letting them know which lines are out of whack. They're like unpaid line managers. A smart book would welcome scalpers.

I would disagree to point... a bonus based biz model can work great as long as you have square action.

Big Bonuses + Forum/Whore/Sharp Action = Bad News

From what I hear these forums do bring a different type of gambler. Since these forums started, the amount of middlers and scalpers have gone way up and the books also had to compete with others on bonus and fees. Referral bonuses seem to be what these forums use more than any other type of gambler. Overall I think the smaller books that come on here and try to advertise to get more players get hurt by these players but the bigger books use it to their advantage because they take back action from these players.

When you live here and get to see the ones who are always in situations that are shaky, it is obvious there are scammers around, but i will say that there are way many more good than bad.
