I am always interested in what Pinnacle is trying to do.

This week they have

Ohio ST -3 -117
Purdue +3 +107
Most others have Ohio st -3.5 -110, Do you think pinnacle is looking for Ohio ST money or Purdue? Or no opinion.

In this PARTICULAR instance, if I were to like Ohio State, I would much rather lay the -3 -117 than -3.5 -110. Now -3.5 -105, that may be a different story.

You bring up a good point. what is a better bet to you -3.5 at -105 or -3 at -117, and why do you think it?

There must be a reason many books let you buy on or off 3 in college for the "regular" 10 cents.

looks like they are looking for OSU money...I look at this less in terms of "odds" and more in terms of psychology...

The average bettor would MUCH MUCH rather have -3 than -3.5, because if the game lands on 3, you PUSH rather than LOSE

Not as important to Purdue bettors becuase if the game lands on 3, you WIN with 3.5 but PUSH with 3. Either way you don't lose.

I've found that most bettors focus on NOT LOSING rather than getting the correct odds, etc. This is the psychology of most sports gambling. They have no problem turning a win into a push (because they didn't "lose" any money in that they don't have to pay), but absolutely can't stand losing by that hook (which is why people buy the half much more than they should).

Just my theory, no evidence to back it up, but I say Pinnacle is leaning towards Purdue winning this one.

like the others - gimme the -3 for if OSU wins by 3 (and as "much" as they score - very likely) i do not lose - as drunkguy has pointed out.

I agree that it looks like Pinnacle is fingering Purdue to win.

This is exactly the kind of situation I keep finding with Pinnacle, where it looks like they are making a really good line (Ohio) and if I take it I lose. I guess I'm basically a slow learner.

If you are looking to bet Ohio State than -3 -117 is much better than -3.5 -110. Not even close. Clearly Pinnacle is on Purdue here, they want you to bet Ohio State. Or they did at this point in time.

Let's compare notes, who are all the books who do it? In case you don't want to post it.....

-3 -117 is more valuable than -3.5 -110 IMO

Maybe they're trying to *balance* their action without moving off the 3?

The question is what is better between 117 and 105, some people here need to reanswer the question.
