Now for those of you that don't know, there's been a rivalry here in Canada with 2 cities probably for over 100 yrs. Those 2 cities are Montreal and Toronto. I don't think there are 2 cities in North America that hate each other as much as MTL and TOR. I don't think I have ever met a guy from Montreal who didn't bad mouth Toronto, and I don't think I have ever met a guy from Toronto who didn't talk bad about Montreal. Bottom line is boys, we both hate each other with a passion, and all we ever do is compete. I myself can't stand Toronto. I've always thought that Toronto is the city of Losers and chokers. I'm only 4.5 hrs from there by car, and have ONLY been there twice, maybe 3 times. That's how much I hate it.. It is the most boring town, nothing to do, and bars close early on Saturday night, at 1 am, and downtown Yonge street is deserted at that time.. There are more people in my driveway than there are people downtown on a saturday night on Yonge street. Whereas, here in MTL, we only start to get ready around 1 am to go out and ONLY at 1 am does downtown start to get busy here.

But that's besides the point. Lets talk sports now and lets compare why MTL is the city of champions of Canada, and TOR is a loser city.

Today, in front of 60,000 plus fans, we beat Toronto's butt again in CFL football. That's right boys, there were 60,000 plus fans at Olympic Stadium believe it or not. Fans love their football here. We are now going to the Grey Cup next week where we will win our 2nd straight championship.

Now lets compare why Montreal kicks Toronto's ass.

Football- We're pretty much even in terms of Championships won.

Baseball- I have to give the edge to Toronto because of the 2 straight world championships, so I have to tip my hat to Toronto. (it was eating me up when i was witnessing that
icon_frown.gif
) And they only won because they had the payroll too, and bought some stars with it. Although we have had better players in our history with no money.

Hockey- NO comparison here boys. Montreal eats up Toronto alive. MTL has 24 stanley cups to TOR's 11.. And Toronto has NOT won a cup since 1967..

. MTL just eats up Toronto alive in every category when it involves hockey.

Finer Restaurants- MTL
Cleaner City- MTL
Nicer Stadium- TOR
Entertainment- MTL by a landslide
Prettier women- MTL by 2 landslides
icon_biggrin.gif

Strip joints- MTL
Nightlife- MTL (especially in Summer where it is nuts)

________

So there you have it boys. These are just a few reasons why Montreal is the greatest town in Canada, and is a much more successful sports town than that sleeper city, Toronto.. and one other thing Toronto.. have fun watching the Alouettes in the Grey Cup on tv next week, and it was nice beating your butts again today, you chokers.. You guys couldn't even protect a big lead today..

sick one,

Moved to Newfoundland last month. Got lost in Montreal for a couple of hours Friday rush hour. Without a word of a lie, I witnessed at least 30 traffic violations. Drivers are the shits. Little courtesy. No cops to enforce it.

How ya' doin' by the way?

I am not aware of a sport called CFL football. Must be something like wrestling or rodeo. I am sorry for anyone who finds their pleasure in these "sports."

Of course, I am also sorry for those who find their pleasure with farm animals. Not that there is anything wrong with finding pleasure with farm animals, or non-farm animals for that matter.

Canadians have their own country and deserve to have the opportunity to observe their own traditions, and to wager on whatever makes them happy.

Agree with most except for the cleaner part. When I lived in downtown Montreal, every summer breeze brought the wonderful aroma of rotting garbage from somewhere. Also St Catherine's Str between Atwater and Peel was a cyclone of litter and newspapers. West Island is pretty clean but the highways and bridges SUCK in Montreal - always under makework construction projects and every 3 lane highway funnels into a 1/2 lane during rush hour. Why the hell does the 40 have an offramp in the LEFT fvcking lane?

Hey buddy, stop living in the past. The Habs last won the Cup in what '95? Since then they've been dreadful and the Leafs have been among the league's best. Toronto is BEAUTY when it comes to hockey.

I don't know how qualified you are to comment on this since admittedly you've only been to T.O. 3 times, but I'm well qualified having lived in Toronto and travelled extensively in Mtl, so I'll add a few more categories:

Better economy - Toronto by a landslide
Most important - Toronto (Mtl ranks somewhere below Saskatoon)
Fewer gangsters - Toronto

And most important of all . . . .
Fewest French Canadians - Toronto

There you have it guys. If you want a city that smells like stale cigarettes and cheap stripper perfume, where fine cuisine is french fries with gravy and cheese or day old donuts, and where the boozy, puffy-eyed, tarted-up women on Crescent street are considered "classy", then go to Montreal. If you're a little more corporate, like Angus Ontario, then stick with Toronto.

Angus Ontario may i ask who is playing in the cfl final championships
applaudit.gif
? Next you say the leafs have been among the league's best
weakestlinkA.gif
, LMFAO big time! I live in Toronto maybe you missed my thread about how bad Toronto is with their sports teams. The craptors scored a season high 4 points in the game vs. was, wow they're really good LMFAO again. The jays now there's a championship team i mean all i hear are people in Toronto talking about their world series wins a couple of years ago. The only decent team Toronto has is the lacrosse team The Rock that's it. Wake up and smell the coffee every year it's the same song and dance with the leafs imposters and their fans. The Toronto fans are one of the most unloyal fans i have ever seen, unlike the Montreal Canadians fans loyal even when they're struggling
1036316054.gif
. Toronto is a nice place to live in, but when it comes to sports we stink period. The leafs among the league best why because they make the playoffs every year and then they choke, then i guess the bills when they were making the playoffs they were among the leagues best
1039912785.gif
. I have nothing against you Angus because i don't know you, but if you're going to make comments backing up the leafs please support them opinions can be stated in the rubber room. The funny thing is when and if the leafs win the cup you will get the biggest bandwagons in Toronto celebrating and the leaf fans will come and try to rub it in my face, but what about the previous years the leaf fans have said this year the leafs will win the cup, how many times have the leaf fans been wrong? Too many to count.

Jesus, I don't know what part of Toronto you live in but calling the Leafs fans disloyal is crazy. You've got to be kidding. The Air Canada Center, and before that MLG, was sold out no matter who was in town and no matter how bad the team was. Don't you remember the Harold Ballard years when he financially starved the team and kept putting a crappy team on the ice just because he knew that the fans would fill the stands? You've got to be fair to all the rabid and loyal Leafs fans in the GTA.

Those are some nice points you make about fan CFL, NBA, and lacrosse, but no offence, I couldn't care less about any of those sports.
Now on to hockey. The Leafs haven't won the Cup in a while, it's true. But, unless you define "one of the best" only by winning championships (in which case only 1 team qualifies) then you can't deny that they've been a successful team for the past 10 years. They've been Eastern Conference finalists 4 or 5 times since '93 and you might notice that right now they are only 1 point behind the Bruins for 1st place in the East and ahead (at least temporarily) of powerhouse teams like the Sens and Devils. Most importantly, they lead the impotent Habs by 4 points. Jesus, don't be a self-hating Torontonian. Why root against the mighty Leafs when it feels so good to root for them?

Fact: The last Canadian team to win a Stanley Cup was the Montreal Canadiens.

So everybody says, ohh but you won 24 Stanley way long ago. Bottom line is what have they done. There is a debate going if the Canadiens won 23 or 24 Stanley Cups, but does it matter? Who's the next team down the list? How many do they have? Does the 1 cup make a difference?

Montreal Alouettes are going to repeat a Grey Cup Champions.

Jermaine Copeland who was the starting QB for the Tennessee Vols until a guy by the name of Peyton Manning came along. This guy is the Randy Moss of the CFL.

Than you got Ben Caa-hooooooon. He's the Heinz Ward of the CFL.

Than you got Mark Megna who is the Brian Urlacher of the CFL.

The Alouettes linebacker coach is an NFL Hall of Famer. That's right Hall of Famer!

I could go on and on but I'll let the results speak for themselves from here on in.

Hilarious, like the world needs more Toronto/Montreal battles. Come on boys, anyone with two eyes knows the best city in Canada is VANCOUVER! I do admit Montreal has the best women, but for just about everything else the power of Canada is shifting West, for good reason. I am not even Canadian, but I lived in Vancouver for awhile and have been to Eastern Canada more than most Americans. I would say if I had to stay in Canada the rest of my life I would party in Montreal, go make some money in Toronto, then live my best years in Vancouver. Enough said.

It's hard to make my point by typing here in the threads, but what can you do. I will never ever chear for any sports team period because then my emotions get involved and my judgement is bias. You said it yourself:

"Don't you remember the Harold Ballard years when he financially starved the team and kept putting a crappy team on the ice just because he knew that the fans would fill the stands?

Nothing has changed the owners are still putting a crappy team on the ice because the fans are either so loyal or dumb that they're happy with the team that's on the ice. What im saying this is the reason management is not bringing in the star players because if the fans will fill the stands with the team that's already on the ice, then why bother spending millions to bring in the star players? Do you honesty think what the management has done in the past few years regarding trades and signings are for the benefit of the leafs/fans or their pockets? I bet you if the leaf fans didn't support the leafs so much and didn't fill the stands, then and only then will you see management sign big name players. By the way if you have been at a leaf game what do you see? Mostly businessman especially at the ACC, i know because i pick up my brother and that's all i see, no more true fans prices are too high. The fact that the stands are filled every night is because of the suits, and im sure you have heard from the most loyal leaf fans out there negative comments towards their team and then the leafs make the playoff and all is forgiven, please come on now. I enjoy living in Toronto i play at a lot of competitive arenas, but like i said leaf fans are pretty bad. I know leaf fans that are still talking about the high stick incident that Wayne Gretzky you remember that, i bet you do. I wish the best of luck to the Toronto teams every year because its good for the economy and most people are very high spirited which is good in todays @!@#@$ up world, but the leafs need to give Pat Quinn a choice between coaching and Gm, not both. When Pat Quinn came to Toronto most leaf fans were
1034535174.gif
his ass and praising him
bowdown.gif
as the one who will take the leafs to the holy grail. Im still waiting

I love Canada!

I visited Toronto and thought it was a great city. I'm looking forward to visiting Montreal now that I've heard so much about it.

I think Vancouver will be the first for me to visit though.

Let's just say that if they asked me to show up wit ha friggin SAW and a HOIST to help DETACH Quebec from Canada and assist them in parting, I'd be there tomorrow. As a generalization ,I have never met a more ignorant group in my life. Take your 24 Stanley Cups and Bon-fuk*in-Jour!

Strip clubs? Congrats....you can keep them skanks there. Football?.....you got by today by the skin of your teeth....again...congrats in your quest for a meaningless Grail.
Your baseball.......pitiful.
In general, you really have very little to boast about. Give it a rest. There are enough asses around without you attempting to become one too.
Dumbest thread I have read to date I think.

I'll get my tool belt just in case.

Jesus, why did you have to bring up Gretzky's blatant high stick on Dougie G that cost the Leafs a chance to beat the evil empire in the Cup finals? He should have been out of the game!!! Not scoring the winning goal!

Anyway, I understand you wanting to stay emotionally detached from the teams. But let me say this and then I will shut up about the Leafs: you need to pay attention to all the wonderful things the Leafs have done recently. They've acquired big name guys (Mogilny, Nieuwendyk, Belfour, Renberg, Nolan), they have one of the higher payrolls in the league, they've forced Quinn to step down as GM (John Ferguson has been GM since the beginning of the year). Jesus, wouldn't it feel good to put aside that "no cheering" rule for once? It's time to stop asking "What would Jesus do?" and start asking "What would Don Cherry do?"

I have friends that have been to Vancouver and they say the night life isn't that great, but if you love skiing it's the best. I have heard that it rains a lot over there, bring your umbrella

. Crazy Jivin Ivan lives over there you may want to ask him for any suggestions on restaurants, shows and so on.

Victoria is even better than Vancouver. More old people, but fewer heroin addicts.

What would Don Cherry do??? Damn stop you are making me laugh too hard! A buddy of mine said this in March: hey why don't we send Don Cherry to Baghdad. He could tell Saddam "listen, if you don't follow orders we are going to send a good Canadian boy out to take you out, but if you want to play nice and save those Americans the trouble, why don't you just take over Quebec? There is one place in the world you could be yourself and the citizens there would all appreciate you and say "where have you been all this time?" In the meantime do us all a favor and save the world the trouble." I laughed then and I laugh now at the thought "what would Don Cherry do?"
