Vlad is the obvious big piece and everyone out there expects Steinbrenner to price out the market for him. Something about starting Karim Garcia and David Delucci tells me that is his priority, even before trying to get Pettitte to reup. Could be interesting to see what direction the Red Sox take, they say they need to keep payroll about where it is now, but with Nomar in FA in one year they could make a move to get him signed or maybe even trade him and use the money to make another move. I heard San Diego was ready to make some splash with a new stadium promising a big jump in revenues. The Phillies have the new stadium, but they already spent a lot last year. Maybe good for one more signing. I-Rod will be a strong commodity, but I think a lot of teams will be leery of a big contract to a catcher at his age. He is definitely a producer, but his premium for playing a tough position probably diminishes. A lot of decent players out there and a lot of interesting strategy. The owners claimed this was going to be the year you really start seeing change due to the luxury tax and revenue sharing so it will be interesting to see if there are noticeable changes in the way the market moves.
