The NBA and the College game is no where close to the level it was 20 years ago. I find myself watching less and less of this sport as the years go by.

In the college ranks, the 3 pointer took away from the game. In the NBA ranks the kids take away from the game.

how do people wager on games without actually watching the players, and/or watching the games that play.

basically i'm seeing and hearing more and more people relying on other's people information to bet without having a good feel for the players/games themselves.

I mean taking into account trends/weather and how they faired against other opp. is great, but relying on other people's perceptions without having your own (accept your assumptions) couldn't be a good thing could it?

basically, its just like a tout service when you have no real knowledge of how a game will be played out relying on other peoples opinions and trends and so forth.

in reference to the basketball is fading, i just hope you don't bet on the games!

I bet 14-16 College Football games each week and never watch any of them. I don't know any of the players, coaches, streaks, etc., and I don't listen to anybodys opinion. Maybe that's why I'm wrong 41% of the time.

Watching the game gives you the information that the numbers don't tell you. Alot of the time of watch a game and see one team playing like crap even though they will win the game. My results are superb when I have seen both teams play in their previous games.

Stern should go. How long has he been commish? 20 years?

Scoring is way down. I don't know the answer but if there were a way to get more scoring like there was 20 years ago people would come back to the game.

fellas..I love the hoops..The problem is the artistry is gone..Athleticism has taken over..The coaches dont coach..The zoo here runs the zookeepers..The art of the pull up jumper is gone..These kids all watch guys leave there feet and go to the whole so the mechanics of the game changed..Mark Price..Walt Frazier..The DR..Kiki..Bobby Jones..These guys led the break, filled the lane and you watched artistry..Different today..Guy gets offensive bound and everyone starts to run the floor..Ball flies to the rim and then thunder..When the dust settles we all take a look and see what happens..Its fun, but fundamentally its become a different game at the pro level..

At the college level by the time the kid is sick of the coach hes gone in the draft early or his years are up..In college the program and coach determine the player..In the pros its not that way..

Lebron amd Carmelo are wonderful additions to the game..I hope they stay healthy and learn that a team is more important in winning than individual effort..ie..Mr. Maravich..

In closing..miss ya pete..

Too many defensive players is a big problem. Most teams are one or two offensive guys and a bunch of guys that play defense. Remember when the Showtime Lakers were lauded for their defense? That defense allowed over 100 points a game almost every night, but was still thought to be the key to their winning titles. Now you get teams like the Nets who have little consistent offensive talent get to the Finals 2 years in a row. That never would have happened not too long ago.

There are still plenty of decent players out there, but basically the rule has been if you can't get some good offensive talent be respectable and play great defense. Since most teams lack that talent they default to being a pure defensive team.

So as a hypothetical, exciting as the high scoring games of the past were, do you think that their greats could beat today's defensive greats if matched head to head?

Basically did the teams move to defense because that was the superior strategy, or do you think it is just a fad?

I don't think so about the hood stuff, it is what sells today to suburban white people as much as people in the hood. I do think teamwork is a lost art and certainly moving without the ball is almost unheard of unless the guy moving is about to get the ball or go up for an alley-oop. Just watch Kobe, if he isn't about to get the ball, how often is he moving? Lazy, selfish bastard making millions would describe too many players today. Then again I don't think the game lacks talent compared to say 5 years ago, its just the gap between the top 10 or 12 players and guys below them is just so deep. Many years ago after the top 5 players the next 50 weren't too far apart, now its a huge gap down from the top to even the decent.

The world would be a whole lot better if everyone

Well said Rob. I could use 10 mil. It is really hard to comprehend the $$ these guys are making now. Barkley can't even believe it he said the other night. He wants to come back for some of the coin.
