Yes, it was.

I don't agree though that people do not have a valid complaint, from the point of view of being assurred everything was fine in this forum by various sources including Mike, and then having GA blame players for reacting as people do for causing the run. Yes, it's great GA didn't fold shop, but are the players supposed to get down on their hands and knees in joyful prayer because Royal stepped in and simply forget everything about how they got there in the first place? 2 weeks ago they could get their money out, assurred all was rosy, today they have to roll it over 5X, better than nothing but WORSE than 2 weeks ago. Even General is admitting he was wrong in backing Mike.

The next time a book advertises here about great bonuses, anyone responding deserves whatever happens because they've proven that they cannot learn from history.

You guys have coconut sacks!! To print that article the night this all goes down is very insensitive. Its not like people knew the book was in trouble for weeks and then got relief. Some players may log on today just to find out that their balance went from GA to royal with every intention of withdrawling.

BUT the BIGGEST jaw dropper is I just read that article at 10:10 AM and a GamblersAvenue ad is sitting next to the article.

As usual, Jazz seems to place things in their proper perpective.
I think that the "damage control" posts and articles probably aren't helpful right now and may even be fanning the flames of disappointed players.

I like the articles generally but for the site that endorsed them to say players should be happy they got anything isn't the coolest right now.

I read every post both you guys write but I wouldn't respect myself if I didn't make the above post. Maybe Jazz was more politically correct.

I think alot of the same points are just gonna be made over and over until things cool down so I won't repost my points. On the RX's side though, from the people that advertised GA and who supposedly heard grumbles, you think its really OK to ask people not to complain.

Sadly to say not everyone has 5 books and some people actually do gamble with the rent money so maybe telling em to suck it up isn't helping their cause.

Bill and Jazz,

Excellent posts!

However, since this is an UNREGULATED industry, there forums are the BEST thing that gamblers have available to them...

Unfortunately, there weren't many naysayers with regards to GA until the very end, but I believe there was still some time to react when the forst poster warned us...

I was lied to as well by the people from GA posting that everything was just fine, which we now know wasn't true!

Thanks, Shrink. However, you've just made it clear that any assurances anyone reads at the Rx about any book whatsoever (advertiser or not) are completely useless. All it takes is for someone to (gasp!) lie to you or the Rx monitors about their situation, and shit hits the fan. The point being, anything you read at the Rx or any other forum about any except the top-flight books is not necessarily lies, but could be based on lies from the books.

Okay, now that I've got that straight, I'll still enjoy the various articles here and obviously a lot of the topics, but I'll completely ignore any recommendations I see posted for any book I'm not already in and know for a personal fact are solid.

To do otherwise would mean I'm a complete moron, and momma didn't raise me that way.

I usually respect Wild Bill's opinion, but this one is way off. You can say the industry is unregulated, but that is what the watchdogs are for. From the sound if it, GA knew they were headed for problems since they were looking to dump the site for awhile. Do the so-called "watchdogs" really watch anything?

For them to be in here trying to attract posters just days before they were going to bail is out is unethical. What if I re-upped last week and now have to endure a 5X rollover?

If GA still has all the post-up cash, as they claim, they should immediately refund it to anyone who requests it before the switch-over to Royal. They claim the rollover is required because they couldn't sell the business to royal and have all the customers to leave. It seems to me that GA didn't sell their book, their customer list, or anything else of the sort.

IT SEEMS TO ME ALL THEY REALLY SOLD WAS THEIR CUSTOMERS' POST-UP MONEY TO ROYAL

and, no, I do not have an agenda here. I have never sent dollar one to GA.

GA is still not being entirely forthcoming about this deal, and I do not believe for one minute that they had the money to pay those they owed...

Drunkguy if they did have the postup money and sold it to Royal it is even worse. That means they took postup money , took the 5 time rollover and discounted it back, hence making money on the players postup money.

Jazz - The interesting thing to note was GA has written at another forum(maybe here too but I havn't checked) that when the sale to Grande was in the works that a rollover was NOT going to be required.

But now it is. And it's NOT a 2x or 3x rollover but a 5x rollover which is a bit steep. If the players money was there WHY?

If the players money is really there and they are really worried about a run on the bank...why not just put a 30 hold on all withdrawls? or limit the withdraw to a % of the available funds?

Some players at GA have posted they came to GA through a bail out and had just met that 10x rollover and now this. Now they have to roll it 5x more.

Imagine that.... a player being upset because they can't withdraw their money.... the nerve of those bastards.... just wanting to get paid what is rightfully their's without having to rollover what belongs to them five times.... ungrateful pricks....

Wild Bill,

Get a clue, ok? People have the right to be pissed off at GA. Should they be thankful that they are going to get some of their money back? Yes. But you're missing the point if you think they should be praising Royal. Royal made a business decision that will make them money by getting them new players and that's all they did. Royal didn't rescue the GA players... they merely made a business decision that they think will help them grow their business.

Everything that GA is claiming (not that I believe it) is that they didn't need a bailout and they just wanted out of the business for one reason or another. IF that is true, they they did exactly what you said, which is steal post-up money unethically.

I can't wait to see how Royal handles telling players who DON'T read the forums what has gone on...

"Dear Joe Customer-

We at Royal Sports have taken over the accounts from Gamblers Avenue. We will continue to run the Gamblers Avenue website for all your wagering needs.

P.S. Don't try to withdraw any of your deposits until you have rolled over your balance 5 times, regardless of how many times you have already rolled it over.

Have a nice day."

Wildbill-
I like your articles..
but I think I have to agree with these guys..
not the right time for this one.

Just my opinion..

How about this:

Dear Joe Customer-
We at Royal Sports have taken over the accounts from Gamblers Avenue. We will continue to run the Gamblers Avenue website for all your wagering needs.

P.S.- In case you are unaware, GA is broke and your money is gone. We have agreed to credit the amount in your account in full, and only ask that you roll it over 5x before withdrawing.

Have a nice day.

Fine, you all can certainly be pissed about it, but just remember two things. First of all there is risk with ANY book out there, even the best could go down at some point in the future. One thing is certain in this business and that is that things can get bad in a hurry. Second is that all of those that want to vent their anger at Royal ought to remember that while it certainly was a business decision, no doubt about that, it still is a far more preferable solution than what could have happened.

If bettors are going to rage endlessly about this deal guess what, other books and Royal will see this. If the people come here and elsewhere go out of their way to try to make Royal a bad guy in all this then do you think a future bailout is going to come? That is the risk you run and that is why I tried to make my point about complaining so vociferously against this deal. No it's not as good as getting paid, but it still is a much better deal than being out the full balance of your account. We need these bailouts, we need buyouts in this industry. If any book, even a crappy one goes completely under and there is no recourse such as this, it will chase off the squares in droves and dent the reputation of the industry as a whole, even the best books. Those things will keep out new money and scare off some squares and is that good for ANY of us? I assume most of the posters here are pretty capable bettors and a rollover requirement probably affects you less than the lowest bettors in the food chain. If you are an accomplished bettor and you are forced to use this "new" GA as one of your shops, I am still going to guess the rollover is nothing more than inconvenience.

When bad things happen, everyone wants someone to blame and then someone to pay them. This situation surely lives up to that. I just think maybe some people are asking the wrong people to pay them and since they aren't getting paid they are blaming the wrong people as well.

Minnow - No one ever said GA is broke. This was an acquisition remember?

Mike Silver wrote: " There was never a question of if the players were going to get paid or not, they were going to get paid even if we did not sell the company to Royal or any other entity.

Let me make one thing clear, I DID NOT STEAL POST UP DOLLARS OR CLOSE THE SPORTSBOOK. I AM NOT A THIEF. I could have taken the money and ran and never looked back. We SOLD the sportsbook. We did not receive a bailout. We were acquired by Royal Sports. There is a huge difference.

Cordially,

Mike Silver"

So according to this statement the monies are there and now Royal is in control of them and will payout. End of subject.

The thing that is bothering me here is the way this deal has been repoted as Gamblers Avenue being "sold".

The fact that it has been reported as a buyout leaves the door open for Gamblers Avenue or similar minded people to go try their Ponzi scheme sportsbook some place else some time else.

They will spend a year shilling for a customer base again then when they have enough sign-ups they will try and sell the business to more reputable operators just like they did here hoping to make a healthy profit in the process.

This time someone blew the whistle before they secured a buyer and their business went bankcrupt before they could sell it.

The run on the bank leaving them with no bargaining power and a bailout rather than buyout was the only option.

Although they were not officially declared bankcrupt there is little doubt that they were.

The thing I don't understand is why Royal Sports has protected them in this way. Could the reputation of the Sportsbook posting forums being at stake have affected their decision on this?
