Fans average only $3 per person for donations to Monday Night's game

What a bunch of cheapskates! Monday Night's football game in Sun Devil Stadium (just down the street from my place) had an admission charge of a "voluntary" donation to get in the game. The donations for the packed 73,000 seat stadium averaged $3 per person. I saw several people walking by the donation boxes and didn't give a thing.

I suppose I shouldn't gripe, it was advertised as being free. But hell, I'm between jobs and I gave $10. Come on people, it's free entertainment and the money went to a good cause.

If they really wanted to raise money, they would have donated a buck from every beer sold....but that's a completely different story.

they did SPLIT the sales of the concessions also,,, I think it was 50-50,,,
I went,,, adn myself and 2 other buds of mine all gave 20 a piece,,, we had bad seats,,

Like you say, there were probably a lot of poor ASU students but not all of the people were college age.

For one the NFL did a classy move by having the game for free and all they asked for was donations and these scumbags only donated $3 a person!!!! I figured it would be at least $10/person. AZ fans should be embarassed but Im sure they are not. They may make low wages in that state but Im sure they had plenty for beer. I hope this doesnt stop the NFL from doing this again.

Personally I'm far more embarrassed that the NFL, who loves to get multi-million dollar stadiums built on the backs of taxpayers, so they can shove more luxury boxes in that the average Joe will never afford, and teams that make you pay a 'personal seat license' fee in order to buy season ticket packages, did not offer direct help to San Diego by either simply donating a chunk up-front or by offering to match or double the public contributions. They had to give the seats away for free, to fill the stadium for the MNF, because it was impossible for them to have the time to sell tickets, much less print them - and of course you're going to attract a lot of people who probably had trouble even paying the parking fee! Plus of course deatbeats, thugs and scoundrels - no, I don't mean the players themselves (lol), just the fans who stiffed on the donation. But I'll guarantee you there were plenty of people there who could have never afforded to bring their family to a game (even themselves) at regular NFL ticket prices, parking fees and concessions, and in fact I wonder how many of them could have used the donations?

I can flat-out guarantee you that the NFL only offered that game free because they had no other option whatsoever - they weren't being magnanimous. The NFL took an unavoidable loss on the game, then asked the fans to donate - fair enough, but I still find it hard to believe they didn't contribute hard cash themselves directly.

What was the procedure for donating at the game? Is it possible that some people didn't get a chance to donate because of this?
I still agree it was very cheap of most, but wan to know the full story as well.

To the contrary, $3.00 per seat is a great average. I imagine well above half scurried past the boxes without putting in a thing.

And I agree with Jazz, the NFL should have matched the fans (which may have increased the take a little). Instead they were apparently crying over the cost for the cancelled venue. Having the fans donate is great, but where were the big wallets on this thing?

There were cheerleaders outside the turnstiles with buckets taking donations so it was impossible not to see them as you walked in.

I agree with Earl except maybe have a required $5 donation to get in. No tickets need to be printed. Even low-income people can afford a price like this for their families.

I was wondering what they did for Chargers season ticket holders. Did they or will they refund the cost of that game? I agree with a required $5 donation even if it would have resulted in a few more empty seats for the "Show".

If, God forbid, something like that happened here and let's say the game was moved to Miami, I assume that somehow, in some way, the Glazers would come up with a creative way to profit from it even if they had to involve their "Foundation".

Don't judge all or even most Arizonan's by their local football team. Most of us are fans of other teams. Most of the people who live here now recently came from other places so we are fans of other teams.

The people who showed up at the game and didn't pay may even be in the minority here because a free game is sure to draw the scumbags from any region. I wonder how other cities would fare also.
