i sent a western union last night for only a 100 dollars... I get a call from western union this morning saying that my funds have been refunded to me because they know I am sending the money to a gambling site. They told me my name is on a list for sending money overseas. The guy said that I have sent numerous amounts over the last two weeks, that is true. But why would they block a 100.00 dollars.... Also what should I tell the book, I don't want them to think I am trying to scam them....

FireGradyLittle - Are you sure they didn't tell you that the name you are sending to is on a list, and not your name?

That's usually the case and not the other way around.

Either way just call the book and tell them what's going on. They will probable understand.

Why don't you just use NETeller? or another method in the future so you won't have any problems.

here is a helpful thread on Western Union:

When I sent a WU the other day the book told me it was declined.I'm not sure what they meant exactly as I sent cash at an agent location. They said they weren't sure why it would be. I assumed it was the sportsbook's fault but maybe I am on a list now?It was a realtively small amount too.Anyway they tried again and it went through ok but this is bullshit if it's WU's doing.

Well guys I guess you are unlucky! I SENT 300$ to 3 different offshore books yesterday with Western Union! Had no problems, I send money EVERY week sometimes 2 or 3 times a week, NEVER A PROBLEM SENDING OR COLLECTING! Probably made 75 transactions in a 52 week period! I SHOULD BE BLACKLISTED,lol,I'd save money! Never asked for any ID or anything like that! I made a 500$ deposit 3 weeks ago from a Western Union agent in Carteret,NJ. It was a little liquor store! He was Egyptian and asked me what are you doing betting over there? I said mind your own ****ing business and do the transaction! He said calm down i was only kidding, he said he had 10 other transactions the same morning to Belize and Costa Rica, lol!

I will never trust WU again. I would rather hop a flight and take the cash myself.

If you send person to person, Western Union should never question it!

FireGradyLittle,
Western Union has a file with your name on it! They just punch in your name and it shows your transactions to and from for the past year and before! I never applied for a Western Union card but they sent it to me and with the swipe of the card it will show EVERY name I sent to within the last 3 years! I will never use this card! 6000$ a month is a red flag for our feds cause for all they know you could be running a book here using overseas as your office! They don't know! The only way to control the gambling offshore is to stop people over here sending funds offshore! They can't touch any sportsbook offshore cause its out of their jurisdiction! Thats why any sportsbook owner and family should NEVER reside in the US! ITS weird how ALL of the junk mail we get from sports books are mailed from within the US! Thats probably next to be attacked even though most are phony addresses!

If you do use Western Union, just use a phony name, address and phone number and keep the transfers under $1000 and you won't have any problem. You don't have to show any type of ID or anything like that as long as you keep it under $1000.

All the sportsbook cares about is the control number. Just let them know when you call to get a name and city to send it to that you have to send it under a different name because Western Union flagged your name.
