"Don't Tread on My Rights" Campaign Gives Consumers A Voice in Growing Debate

THE BOOM IN ONLINE GAMBLING
It is estimated that the online gambling industry will generate revenues of approximately $5 billion in 2003. Clearly, more and more Americans see
online gambling as a preferred form of entertainment. However, pressure is building from state and federal regulators to ban Internet-based wagering.

BetonSports.com, the largest online wagering company in the world, is giving consumers the opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns regarding recent regulatory efforts that may infringe upon their rights.

HITTING THE STREETS OF NEW YORK CITY
BetonSports.com announced today that it will sponsor a national petition drive titled, "Don't Tread on My Right ... To Wager Online."

Starting Friday, October 24th, BetonSports.com will have petitions available on the company's RV, which has been traveling for the past two months to numerous cities throughout the country attending NFL and college football games.

The RVs first stop will be in New York City. From October 24th to 26th, BetonSports.com's RV and marketing team will be located at City Hall, Times
Square, Herald Square, Union Square, Yankee Stadium and various other "hot" spots asking for signatures from consumers who want to voice their support for the campaign and their right to wager online.

TAKING A STAND
According to David Carruthers, CEO of BetonSports.com, "It is our responsibility to give the millions of online gambling enthusiasts a common voice as our industry faces constant criticism from state and federal regulators. BetonSports.com offers something not much different than what Nevada, New Jersey, and numerous others states do whether it is a casino, a horse track or a lottery ticket sold at the corner store."

"We believe that our customers and the American public understands that online gambling is a responsible form of entertainment. This petition
campaign will give a voice back to consumers and will send a clear message to state and federal elected officials."

What 'right'? Is this just semantics as usual or are they referring to some innate, in-born right granted to all people of the world at birth to gamble on the Internet?

If they mean 'ability', fine. But nowhere do I recall a 'right' existing for gambling online, only a desire to take it out of the gray area.

I like the concept, in fact so much I'd like to organize a grass-roots effort to protect the players' RIGHT to be able to go to an impartial mediator, unconnected with the gaming industry and funded by license fees, who will rule with the force of law on all disputes with books. Players also have a RIGHT to view audited reports of a book's financial condition, released monthly, and have a RIGHT to require that all books hold enough money in escrow (again, verified independently), to avoid a single no-pay situation.

I have some other RIGHTS I'd like to assert, but unfortunately I'm plumb out of Jack Daniels.

Publicity stunt all the way. People are using BetonSports as a reason to BAN internet gambling. They are a scam outfit.

G Kap. may not be liked by his competition, and stiffed BW, but this may be the one scenario where he actually will help the industry. Everyone wants to be able to bet online without having to circumvent via a proxy server. Hopefully he can get the job done.

Dante, isn't this something like Jack Price being the spokesman for the financial advisors industry?

Yes, he's fighting for the industry, but that probably isn't really a good thing.

In the end, I guess it all comes down to his attorneys-and not him.

He certainly seems to think that he's untouchable, no doubt about that.

Don't know if it is a good idea or not? Could bring attention to the subject and force congress to make a decision either way, not sure I want a decision out of them right now.

Wow, frankly I'm surprised at the skepticism considering that on-line bettors are the punching bag of the political establishment and definitely need some PR. How many posts have I read from people who don't even tell their spouses that they bet? Talk about self guilt.

The reason that we are in such a position is that the popular view as advanced by the politicians is that we are a bunch of losers who are too stupid or undisciplined to refrain from this horrible gambling habit. They need to protect us for our own good.

The only way that the impression of us as social misfits will be lifted will be the realization that we are from all walks of life, we vote, have families, own homes, have jobs, careers, etc. A large number of sigs on a petition may be a start.

I don't give a shit who spearheads the effort. I do think it's lame to attack someone who is taking action that will benefit you whether you want to do business with them or not.

BOS is on a SQUARE HUNT that's all. They are trying to locate and sign up as many squares possible so they can make some cash before the whole darn industry goes down the friggin' tubes.
