What's a good mountain bike for me to buy (in the $500 range) ? I'm thinking of getting a new one.

I've still got my Norco Bigfoot from 15 years ago.

Hali...sorry I just saw this ...

I have a Gary Fisher Aquila from 1999 its a cross over I can switch it to road tires when I do road races.. not a bad bike steel frame...if you want a midrange mtn bike around 800$ that is a brand to consider.

There are higher end ones that have front and rear shocks and XT components but you might pay 2500$ for them..

Gary Fisher makes great bikes IMO I have had mine going on 4 years and never a problem Just tune it up regularly and true the rims.I did have to upgrade my back rim and rear derailer..but thats it.. it has rapid fire gears to switch on the fly with ease also

good luck let me know if I can help you anymore Sir

Thanks, Dante.

When I get some free time in the next couple of weeks, I'll probably swing by a couple of bike shops and have a look at what they have. I don't know how much of a selection they have up here in Nova Scotia, but I'll let you know which models I'm looking at and get your opinion. This time of year, they should have some good prices, I would think.
