Policeman Eliminates Risk in Online Poker

Randy Peterson, a police detective in Vancouver, says he has invented a method that removes the element of chance in online poker, making it a legal game of skill that is not subject to the anti-gambling laws of most U.S. states. In Peterson's game, which he calls "skill poker," players at different virtual tables are given equivalent hands of cards. At the end of the game, the players are rated against their peers at other tables, rather than against the players at their own table, in terms of who did the best with his or her set of cards. The patent-pending idea for skill poker is currently held by LegalPlay Entertainment, formerly Poker.com, which launched a web site called Skillpoker.com last month. "It's an interesting way to play," says Greg Giannokostas, who plays four to six hours of online poker a day. "It seems like the better players are going to win at this site."

This may be good news for poker players that do not trust online casinos.
