Managers have the same problem with blind allegiance to closers as they do to starters...letting em stay in even when they get hit hard and the matchup doesn't favor the pitcher.

How do you not bring in a lefty against Matsui/Posada/Sierra?

Weird.

McKeon hasn't exactly been a genius in this series but the blame here goes more to Urbina for awful pitches. Sometimes, you just have to blame the players.

dogs:

I've seen some pretty weird coaching decisions in this Series. Last night the 1st baseman for the Marlins wasn't playing the line to prevent a double. Sure enough, the Yanks hit one between the 1st baseman and the line for a double.

be careful dogs24....posada and sierra are switch hitters so "playing the percentages" would not apply in this case.

I don't have the #s off hand, but I'm relatively certain both Sierra and Posada are far more effective (and certainly have more experience) batting against righties than they do/are against lefties.

Urbina stood a much better chance of getting the right handed Boone, than Sierra. No way he should have thrown Sierra a pitch to hit at 3 and 2. I know this is hindsight, but it is exactly what I thought to myself at the time. Boone was sitting on deck, easy pickings for righty Urbina.
