It probably varies by carrier, but you CAN get cable internet service without signing-up for cable TV. Comcast does this, but charges an extra $10 per month for it. By the way, to get DSL you don't need another phone line; one line carries both the analog (voice) and digital (DSL) signals. You can talk on the phone and surf at the same time. You simply have to add the supplied filters to lines going to an actual phone in order to filter out the digital signal for talking.

I have NYC Road Runner, and you can have only the cable modem without cable. They charge slightly more ($5 I think) for this, but nothing overly painful.

tommy fu - Just courious...do you have a TV? Or are you watching the good old standby FREE TV with an antennae on the roof?

If its the later keep it up as you are NOT missing much with cable.

I remmeber the good old days when ALL TV was free.

I think what he's saying is, he doesn't have cable tv service and wants to know if can still get cable for the computer.

If that's the question, the answer is yes.

I have cable for the computer and watch tv with a satellite dish.

Yeah Pickles, I should have qualified that....

With Comcast, you don't need cable tv(but AT&T used to try really hard to convince you that you did).

You can get cable internet without cable TV. But the beauty is that you can get cable TV for free if you buy the cable internet. Thye run through the same lines and after it is installed, just use a splitter and you will get about 75 cable channels to use on up to 4 or 5 TV's if you have enough splitters. Splitter only cost about $1.00 these days.

Of course not that I condone such actions!
