They acuired Antoine Walker and Delk from the Celtic today for Raef Lafrentz.

Now they have:

Nash
Nowitzki
Finley
Walker
Jamison

How the hell do they expect to win??

Seriously!

From a home town perspective, a terrible deal. Not necessarily in giving up Raef, but in what they got. Walker is a dog, and he will have to change his game or he will be sitting. My only guess in to Nelson's thinking is that he wanted some bench scoring (like Van Exel) because they had a lack of bench scoring threats. The sleeper in the deal for Boston is the young kid Jeri Welsh (sp.) as I thought Nelson was very high on his potential!

The deal makes sense only if the Mavs intend on moving Walker. He cannot help them and can hurt them a great deal with his selfishness on the court and in the lockeroom.

Raef fits the Celtic mold.

Danny Ainge will bring a championship to Boston in a relatively short time with continued deals like this one.

Strut,

I'm a long-time Celtic fan and wish I could be that optimistic. Subtracting Walker is a plus but adding LaFrentz isn't a whole lot.

Do agree with one of the earlier posts that it's a bad move for the Mavs. Walker is a complete ball hog and extremely low percentage shooter who will certainly disrupt the Mavs flow.

Walker was totally outplayed by Kenyon Martinn who in turn was eaten alive by Tim Duncan. He's a long way from being an All-Star.

Don't think that is a bad line-up for Dallas at all, they will easily outscore most teams. Who do you leave alone if you want to double someone? Won't win in the play-offs with it but will roll up the wins in the regular season when teams play a lot softer.

I'd like to see them get a Mutombo for this team.

Srut,

I hate throwing cold water on a fellow Celts fan, but I'm sure the Mavs will have a late first round pick and in the NBA those just aren't that valuable.

As much as I dislike Walker as a player I was hoping they could get more for him.

First of all Antoine Walker is one of the nicest guys in the NBA of the court. Yes he does his "Walker Wiggle" and displays his emotions on the court, but off the court he is a great guy. I got the chance to meet him and I also have a friend that played for the Celtics and he told me the nicest guy on the team was Walker and Pierce was actually a jerk off the court. Walker and Pierce were forced to carry the load in Boston and Atoine forced alot of shots that he will not have to on Dallas if he stays. I look for Walker to be a great addition to the Mavs, his scoring numbers will go down but his rebounds and assists will over all play will be much better. I agree with the poster that questions the Mavs defense. We might actually get back to seeing some games with each team scoring in the 130's. I think the deal works for both teams.

Gagne38,

I don't dislike the guy personally, in fact I think he gives as much effort on the court as anyone in the league.

I just think he dominates the ball too much and shoots too much to be playing that style for a legitimate championship contender.

I also don't think he is as skilled as the other Mavs players to add much offensively and defensively he's not athletic enough to add much. Just don't think he'll fit in well there.

He needs to go to a lesser-talented team like Seattle. there he could shine brighter.

He won't get the ball that much because Nash will keep it up the floor and he will get it only if he is open. That was the big problem for the Celts last year, they didn't really use a point guard like they should. What this should do is make Nash shoot a lot less. Walker needs to work inside more and shoot the bombs less. Not many players in the league can guard a guy with range and size like him, if he applied himself more to the inside game he could have a Mailman-type game in isolation, but with the 3-ball range. That would be quite difficult to stop. Of course they have no real centers now to stop anyone so they will need 115 points a game to win in the playoffs.

is the Mavs trying to keep pace with the Lakers. Adding another potential all-star to their roster. This seems to be the trend these days with the have-money teams in the West. Walker will definitely be heard from sometime during the season. Like someone already said, the pressure is off him to be the man on this team, he might just win "The NBA 6th Man of the Year" award.

wil.

Guys Reaf was pathetic, no sac then the celtic fan Strut thinks they make it all the way?? man you must bleed celtic green. Reaf gets rid of serious $$$ for the mavs and didn't have to give up much. regarding the 2004 draft pick. They can take someone that has been around for 5 years with the roome they have created under the cap. Besides Walker is just trade bait. They have to find a big fella. they have a mad scorer (Walker) and money, they will tade and find a big man and the Western is loaded all over the place, the eastern conference shouldn't even play this year. Anybody know if rasheed wallace is able to be traded???

This is a horrible trade , I almost swerved off the road when I heard it this morning! WHY???? What is Dallas doing, tinkering with a team so close...True they have to toughen up, but this was NOT the answer...It sounds to me they just added another player to a team of bombers who don't play defense, now they have the ultimate gunner....only problem is he sucks!
