Former NBA star Dennis Rodman, known for his wild partying, was cited Sunday morning on suspicion of drunken driving after crashing a motorcycle in front of a Las Vegas strip club, police said.

Police believe the motorcycle that Rodman wrecked belonged to a manager at Treasures strip club, 2801 Westwood Drive, south of the intersection of Rancho Drive and Sahara Avenue, said Las Vegas police spokeswoman Carla Alston.

Rodman had asked the club manager whether he could take a ride on the motorcycle, she said.

"He was popping wheelies up and down the street," Alston said.

Paramedics and police arrived at the accident scene shortly before 9 a.m.

An employee at Treasures who did not want to be identified said employees found Rodman in the parking lot about two hours after he arrived at the club. Rodman was bleeding from "big cuts in his shins," and the motorcycle was about 15 feet away, the employee said.

"We wrapped up his legs in T-shirts to stop the bleeding," the employee said. "He was taken away on a stretcher."

A manager at Treasures who identified himself as "Uncle Mike" Goldberg said Rodman hit a pole and might have suffered a broken ankle. The motorcycle was totaled, Goldberg said.

Rodman has frequented the club, Goldberg said, and is a popular client with the dancers.

"He's the life of the party," Goldberg said. "He comes in with his entourage. They get up front by the stage. ... They might have a few drinks."

Rodman, 42, was taken to University Medical Center. An official with the hospital said he was treated and released. Citing patient confidentiality laws, the official declined to elaborate on the nature and severity of Rodman's injuries.

Police charged Rodman with one count of misdemeanor driving under the influence but did not book him into the Clark County Detention Center, Alston said. Authorities were awaiting results of toxicology tests on his blood-alcohol level.

Goldberg insisted that Rodman never drank excessively at the club or appeared intoxicated.

"He's never come in here and been hammered," Goldberg said. "Actually (on Sunday morning) he was a gentleman. He got up and left, and he was fine."

Rodman, he said, is known to convert several hundred dollars into singles and generously reward the strippers on stage.

"As a girl dances, he's throwing singles all over the place," Goldberg said.

A tenacious defender who led the NBA in rebounding seven times during his playing days, Rodman helped Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls win three championships. Before that, he had helped a Detroit Pistons squad, whose members proudly called themselves the sport's "Bad Boys," claim two titles.

But Rodman's antics on and off the court eventually caused him to wear out his welcome with NBA front offices. He last played for the Dallas Mavericks in the 1999-2000 season, but he was released after 13 games.

No longer racking up technical fouls, "The Worm" continued to make headlines for his run-ins with the law.

Just last month, Rodman was arrested in Newport Beach, Calif., on a charge of being drunk in public. According to news accounts, since Rodman retired from the NBA, Newport Beach police have gone to his home more than 70 times because of loud parties.

His notoriety in Las Vegas is well-documented.

In May, a Las Vegas Hilton security officer reached a confidential settlement with Rodman in a lawsuit that accused the former basketball player of engaging in lewd behavior.

The security officer was one of four women who filed lawsuits that accused Rodman of grabbing their breasts at the Las Vegas Hilton in 1998. One of the women died before her case was resolved. Another, a cocktail waitress, reached a confidential settlement. An adult entertainer agreed to dismiss her complaint against Rodman.

Rodman said earlier this year that he wanted to return to the NBA, preferably to play for either the Los Angeles Lakers or the Sacramento Kings.
