I HAVE ASKED AT LEAST 10 DIFFERENT PEOPLE ABOUT THIS, AND EVERYONE HAS AGREED THAT IT WOULD MAKE FOOTBALL 10x MORE EXCITING. WELL, HERE IT IS---INSTEAD OF A BORING EXTRA POINT AFTER SCORES THAT IS NO DIFFERENT THAN A LAYUP IN HOOPS, I PROPOSE THAT EVERY EXTRA POINT BECOMES A 40 YARD FIELD GOAL. HOW MUCH MORE EXCITING WOULD GAMES BE WHEN AT THE LAST MINUTE IF A TEAM IS DOWN BY 7, THEY HAVE TO SCORE A TOUCHDOWN FOLLOWED BY A 40 YARD FIELD GOAL FOR THE 7TH POINT? THEY WOULD ALSO INSTITUTE A LONGER 2 POINT CONVERSION, SOMETHING LIKE 5 YARDS OUT. I AM NOT KIDDING WHEN I SAY THAT EVERY SHARP GAMBLER/FAN I HAVE SPOKEN TO HAS SAID IT WOULD BE AWESOME! IF ANYONE AGREES WITH ME, I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW TO GET MY PROPOSAL TO THE NFL. I AM JUST SO TIRED OF THE SAME OLD BORING P.A.T. LET'S MAKE FOOTBALL EVEN MORE EXCITING THAN IT ALREADY IS. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY AND ALL COMMENTS.

I love that idea man...the 2 pointer would have to be worked out as to where to spot the ball to keep it worth more to convert...I do think it would be great for the game though...much more exciting element, instead of the Automaticca!

Why 40? why not 20 or 30 or 36 yards out?

Why 5 on the extra point? Why not 3 or you have to after it with one guys less.

If Football isnt exciting enough as it is, perhaps its time to look for a new hobby.

slim, i am not saying that my idea is flawless. That's why i want feedback from you guys. 30 would be great! By the Way, I also do believe that football is the greatest. However, what's wrong with making it even better? I will bet you that more people would agree with me than not.

Improving football would be great. Doing so by making an extra point 40 yds is like improving basketball by making the rim square shaped.

I like the idea in theory, but as a football bettor, I don't like it. It would screw up the 3 and the 7 as key numbers and make the NFL harder to beat.

Just off the top of my head , I would guess that a 40 yard field goal is converted maybe 75% of the time....

While the idea is a very interesting one, however from a bettor`s standpoint it would drive me nuts! I`d have to vote NO...But if I didn`t bet the games I`d be all for it....The NFL is about wagering, it would never pass,lol.....Look how long the 2 pointer took to be accepted, I`d like to see ONE FOOT INBOUNDS BE ACCEPTED AS A RULE....Why not, it would be less controversy on sideline plays...

Ideas are cool, making someone go for a 40 yd field goal for a point after is about as stupid as you calling me out for betting 5 bucks over the internet...

While a longer extra point might make the game more exciting it would give placekickers far too much importance. Years back there was mucho complaining about kickers being way too important. It was one of the reasons the goalposts were moved from the goal line back to the back of the endzone and the only reason for the rule change that missed field goals went back to the line of scrimmage instead of just to the 20 yard line

No offense, I didn't read any replies to your original post before I wrote mine, but I guarantee you I'd probably never watch the NFL again if that were the case. I'd for certain never bet a penny on a game straight-up, either. It's like playing poker with a group of friends, and one friend gets bored with the normal games, usually because they're losing, and they want to play some stupid fvcking gambling game like 'baseball' or 'Mexican showdown' or 'guts', or any other number of games that are not poker, simply card games.

Frankly, if the game isn't exciting enough to you, then no problem, stop watching - I don't mean that in a harsh way. While we're at it, why not simply make the goal posts a quarter as wide as they are now too?
