A man who, plagued by a run of bad luck, registered with a gamblers self-exclusion program, and promptly walked into a Casino and won $64,000, must return it - the Casino Control Commission ruled on Wednesday.

Daniel Santangelo won the amount last year at Bally's Atlantic City. But, in a cruel stoke of irony, he had already banned himself from the Casino. The state self-exclusion programme stipulates that those who have signed up to it 'shall not collect any winnings or recover any losses.' That’s really got to sting...

Elsewhere Gary Michael Byrd, 32, has been sentenced for the March 19 robbery at Sam's Place Casino. He was arrested April 11 after several people identified him from a surveillance camera photo.

Byrd claimed that the charges against him were the result of a ‘misunderstanding’ between him and the female bartender, who claimed he told her he had a gun and demanded money. He denies saying this. His public defender, Kobi Gibbs, told the judge that Byrd does not like guns and has never used a gun during a robbery. Byrd has three prior convictions for robbery in which he used a knife.@@
